Brake Dust Shields

Brake Dust Shields
I saw some old threads, but they were so old I thought I'd start one.
The dust shields are an interference fit around the center area of the knuckle (I'm talking front). I buy knuckles (on my second one of two) then replace the bearings then when I get to the car, it's a swap. To do the bearing during the job requires down time because I need the press at work. This way I just bring the stuff to work and do it. $45 for a knuckle. Buys me a lot of flexibility. So I had the old passenger side (I wish junk yards bought parts back) and I wondered about the dust shield. I drove it off with a chisel. So what I really want to know is if I got a new one, do I just hammer it on there? Probably, right? What I find funny is both junkyard knuckles had shields that were practically not rusted at all. Seems like they would have been worse, but I'm glad.
So ON the car, it would be tough to remove, especially since you need to take the hub out to get the shield off. Which makes cutting and bending the way to go, like if they're rubbing.
Has anyone actually gone on flea bay, bought new shields and replaced them?

Better cooling is a good point. I replaced a wheel bearing in the back, and accidentally removed the dust shield bolts off, but they broke in half. So now I just chucked the shield in the trash. I live in NY so I hope snow doesn't really affect it too much.
