Question about modifications

Hello,
I have lurked these forums for awhile now and this forum has inspired me to make some modifications to my i30(yes I realize there is a seperate i30 forum but this question pertains to all). I have installed a magnaflow catback and an injen CAI. I figured the next logical step was a y pipe or headers. I have researched for HOURS and have probably read every post relating to headers/y pipes. However, since those posts, many of the companies that make headers and y pipes have stopped selling, so I figured this question was acceptable. I want to buy another exhaust mod but I want to easily pass emissions(not in cali). What is the least ghetto exhaust mod I can make next? Obx headers, warpspeed y pipe, or something else? Thank you in advance and please dont redirect me to another post, I have probably read them all.

Just grab a Y pipe and a high flow cat converter and that's it. If you want the extra 2-3 horsepower then buy new headers. But's it's a PITA to change. I just have eBay headers and Y on my car. Works fine. If you really want to be top notch then good luck finding a cattman with the equal length Y.

Thanks for the reply. I have a cali emissions 99, so wouldnt headers make a bigger difference? I am definitely getting a warpspeed y pipe, wish cattman was still in business.

If you don't live in Cali, how did you get a Cali spec max then? Yes it probably would make a difference but never owned one since I live in NY.

People and cars get around. Cars purchased in California can be sold later on in another state. So a California car can end up in Idaho, or even New York

I didnt buy my i30 new. I guess it started life in cali. Anyways, I'm mechanically challenged and professional shops refuse to install headers or y pipe. Im alright though, my car sounds better than I ever thought and I ordered a Remin wood dash kit. Ill post pics when I install.

If it removes any precats, it is illegal. I asked and they wont do it. I have the cali spec so I have a precat on my header and y pipe, which means it is illegal to remove. If i had the fed spec I could get headers. Its alright though, cant wait to get my dash kit!

Not true. Most shops won't do the job because they're removing emission related equipment that federal (and most state) law requires.

Headers on a CA spec max make a big difference IMO. I have Cattman headers on two of my 99's.

The other alternative is to replace the front/right restrictive CA spec header with a fed spec header, then you can simply get a fed spec Warpspeed y-pipe. The con is you'll have to get an O2 simulator for the O2's you just bypassed. Easy to do though, just one more hurdle worth mentioning.
