Were can I get parts for my 1999 maxima se online any good websites and any one know if theres a guide out there on replacing thease parts?

I have a 96. Somewhat different parts. I removed and stretched the internal spring about 1/8 inch re installed. This was done when the water pump needed to be replaced.

Well it started making a noise today its coming from were the timing chain is. I replaced the water pump about 8 thousand miles ago so no problems there but the chain is making noise I suspect one of the guides broke or slipped maybe its the tensioner

There are many parts with varied prices on rockauto.com

I myself haven't looked at what different brand tensioners are on there but I'm sure someone can chime in. Also search and look for similar threads. Search using the google function on this website for better search results.

How hard is it to replace the guides my self?I havent been working on cars long but if I have a guide and instructions I usually can do most things my self. The auto repair shop wants 2000 to do a whole new timing chain im pretty certain theres nothing wrong with my timing chain those things take a lot just sounds like one of the guides is breaking or the tensioner.

I'd suggest making sure it's not your belt tensioner, alternator or power steering pump before you decide to tear into the timing chain.

I was in this very same situation a couple of years ago.

With a bit obsessive confirmation and re confirmation I found that my TC wasn't the issue ... belt tensioner pulley.

The belt tensioner pully is a good guess. Fairly cheap too.

You could remove the serpentine belt and listen to see I'df the noise is still there.

If the noise is still present, it might be either the power steering pump, or the harmonic balancer (crankshaft pully) is going out . It might be rubbing on the chain cover, making the noise you are hearing.

I haven't read too many threads about people replacing their chains due to wear and noise.

Please check these things before assuming you need to do something which will take a lot of work.
