So bought a 97 maxima rust free car today. Super lucky annnnd no immobilizer bs which is exactly what i wanted. Now.. Should i repin my harness to adapt the 97 ecu or should i just do a complete harness swap? Just wondering what u guys think would be easier. Im thinking ecu re pin but unsure yet. Lmk guys im 99 going to a 97 ecu

Re-pin. Besides being a super royal pain in the behind to swap harnesses, there are a lot of wiring differences between a 97 and a 99 besides the ECU connector.

so far only thing i see in the difference is the 44,48 pin in the 97 ecu location is (Crank ref) and the 99 ecu 44,48 pin location is (crank phase). Is there a difference in the ref or phase or anything? Jw is all and the 46,47 99 ecu pin location is ( cam ref) and 97 ecu 46,47 pin location is (cam phase). Im just wondering if theres a difference in phase or reference cause if not then should hurt where nothing there.

Yes, there is a big difference. Crankshaft reference, CKPS(REF) is the sensor at the harmonic balancer. This signal represents top dead center (TDC) and occurs once per revolution of the crankshaft.

Crankshaft phase (or position), CKPS(POS) is the sensor at the flywheel. This signal represents 1 degree of crankshaft revolution and you get 360 of these per revolution of the crankshaft. This is the signal the ECU uses for engine timing to fire the ignition coils and fuel injectors.

Thanka man for the reply i was worried that question would go dry lol. From the looks theres not a whole lot of repinning for my ecu swap. Im also going non egr and going with the non swirl valve intake so those pins wont matter much i dont reckon. Ty for this should help me out tons. I have the service manual pin outs for an97 and 99 ecu and been trying to get much info as possible. I hate the damn nats in this 99 lol 3rd time i have been through this and well its time for ecu swap ha.
