I need to get new brakes, please give suggestions

Hey, a while ago I had Nissan put on their "state of the art" semi-metallic brakes which squeeled since the day i pulled out of the dealership. I was hoping that someone could give me a couple of suggestions on what brakes I should get. I'm trying not to spend a fortune, and I do not want to hear a single PEEP from the damn brakes.. no squeeling allowed.. what do you think is my best bet?? Thanks a lot

I got the Stillen Metal Matrix pads and they work great. No squealing what-so-ever. Very dusty though. I did put them on w/ cross drilled rotors too. I'm not sure if they are meant to work w/ factory rotors. People also use Porterfield or something like that for pads. Just make sure the new pads have disc brake quiet on them. It's a goopy product that deadens noise from brakes. Good luck.

Stillen Metal Matrix pads will work w/ OEM rotors - that's the setup I have. I agree on the dust: pretty dusty pads, but good stopping performance. Only occasional low/mild squeal when wheels are turning *very* slowly (nearing a stop).

If you absolutely can't stand ANY brake squeal, get OEM "organic" based pads, but you'll sacrifice some stopping performance. (Brake pad choice is usually about compromise between a number of variables - rarely can you "have it all" [no dust, no squeal, superior stopping performance]).

Good luck.

I just got aftermarket pds/rotors and the brakes squeek like ****, so i went to pep boys and they had something called brake squeeker stopper, you take awpart your brakes, spray it on, wait ten minutes and that's it, I hope it works.

That's true -

(The most common solution for this is the blue anti-squeal brake goo, applied to the back of the pad before it is installed)

I guess the "spray" brodaiga mentioned, is effectively the same thing.

but..

alright, so you all say stillen and blue-goo brake squeel remover... i have a feeling that stillen pads are going to be expensive as hell, and brake dust stinks.. i like my wheels shiny! anyone have any suggestions that may not be as pricey... what are the prices on the crossed drilled rotors also, i just like to know all prices so that i can pick accordingly, like i said i'm trying to do this at low cost w/ no squeel and minimal brake dust... screw stopping performance, i don't drive on people's a$$es so i've got time for that... thanks again for gettin back to me on the first post

Yeah, you have to be very careful on brake dust. It's NASTY stuff! I don't know if they have changed them now, but they used to be made from Asbestos ... it's nasty stuff. Don't inhale it!

I am surprised your brakes squealed since day one. I would have taken it back and gotten it fixed. A good mechanic will always but some anti-squeal or copper grease on the plate between the pad and piston and on the edges of the frame of the pad (difficult to describe) to prevent squeals like this.

I personally have a set of Porterfield's on my car because I wanted the extra performance. They don't squeel, but they groan for the first 50' in the morning. If you search some posts you'll find lots of comments on the Metal Masters and the Porterfield's. You really can't go wrong with either of them. People on here also seem to like some of the Raybestos Quiet Stops, but I have never tried those.

As for the rotors, I plan on replacing my front rotors with slotted ones for a track date in April, but unless you want extreme performance or the looks, any rotor will really do.

You can order directly through www.porterfield-brakes.com
If you mention the Maxima group deal a set of fronts will run you $69.
If you really want all the options, look at the Hawk pads, I think www.eatricezone.com will distribute those as well. They will probably squeel too much though. There is also a company called CarboTech that makes a compound I'm going to try too. There are a lot of different options out there, you just have to dig a little.

They don't squeel at all, but they do have a groan for the first 50' or so every morning.

I just placed an order w/ Phuong over at www.eatricezone.com.

(Getting some Goodrich SS brake lines & brake fluid)

Fair prices & very professional & courteous - I highly recommend GR Racing, based on my experience thus far.
