camshaft position sensor still leaking

We noticed the camshaft position sensor leaking some oil and causing the belt to squeel like crazy on startup, so we ordered the official nissan replacement o-ring from the dealership ($7 for an o-ring!) and swapped it out. However it seems to still be leaking. Not sure that we can do much better than the OEM part...

Anyone have any further suggestions on how to seal it up? I'm tempted to put a bead of RTV around it...

You might have been able to use an o ring from the hardware store. Still could.

It is possible that the sensor or the hole it lives in was not cleaned adequatly. Maybe a bit of grit or crud prevents the o ring from sealing properly.

I would remove the sensor and clean everything with brake cleaner. You might be able to re use the o ring.
Or bring your recently purchased o ring to the local hardware store to match it with a new one.

Shouldn't be a need for rtv with the correct size oring. Just lube the oring up with a bit of oil before installing and it should seal. OEM is not always better in some cases but you would think an original would not be this big of a deal. You could try another from a local parts store, just find the same size by taking yours in the store. Good luck.

When mine leaked, I just bought a whole new sensor, which includes the O-ring already installed. Delphi SS10038. About $35-40
