cheapest ways to improve Horsepower??????

i heard of putting platinum spark plugs and something about air intake...well, i'm not trying to spend HUNDREds of dollars but i would love to add an extra 10 to 20 horsepower real cheap...what's the air intake thing? and how much do it run? also what are the best spark plugs to improve speed on Maxima's? I was interested in the Bosh platinum +4 spark plugs but someone told me that they suck...someone give me some insight?

Plugs won't do much for HP. New plugs mainly are good for your engine. There is no plug that will instantly give you 20hp. Unless they're made of solidified Nitrous or something. <j/k>. The best plugs are the NGK Platinums. Period. There are none better. They're just the OEM Plugs, but platinum, basically. Get them. You'll thank me later.

A Cold Air Intake (CAI) is the best intake for raw HP, but your low-end power either won't change or you will lose 2-3hp, while gaining 8 in the powerband (2500-5000 RPM's)

The best bang for the buck is a Y-Pipe. Depending on what kind you get, they run from $180 or so up to $399. Adds 12-18hp, approximate.

I suggest Warpspeed Performance for both items, for the best price, reliability, and customer service. <-----Hey Dan, since I plug you so much, howabout a discount on my CAI?>

So your best bet is CAI and Y-Pipe, +20-26hp. That will total run you $350 minimum.

If you wanted cheap mods for +20hp, you should have bought a Civic. Then again, you still wouldn't be close to a stock Maxima.

Hope this helps.

Guess he never heard of the expression, "Give a man a fish, he eats for a day, teach a man to fish, he eats for a lifetime."

Or something like that.

I think on the simpsons it was " Buy a man a fish he will eat for a day, teach a man to fish and he will buy and ugly hat"

Since this keeps on happening, why don't we make the "search" button more noticeable? Bigger font? Better colours? Flashing? These types of situations will absolutely keep happening, and it will never stop unless people know more about search feature, and can see it better. People need to understand that the "search" feature is an excellent tool at finding previously discussed subjects......
This needs to be looked into wayyyyyyy more!

About the spark plugs. They are nothing special. They are the regular factory plugs for our cars. Get them from the dealer.

NGK Platinum. Dont go around asking for ther "cool maxima type platinum performance plugs"...just get new OEM.

And read this ENTIRE thread. But, dont poast anything there yet.

Umm...mecca, It's pretty much a myth that ANY spark plugs add ANY horsepower in our cars.

Maybe in some domestics, because of the fact that their engines are inefficient in the first place, but not in the VQ Engines we have in our cars.

You buy anything but the NGK's, and you'll be sorry when your engine wears out 50,000 miles before it should have. Maybe I'm exaggerating, but 9,000 .org members can't be wrong.

Some people buy different plugs when they have Nitrous, but that's a special situation.

We're beating the Bosch +4's to death.

Mecca, stick with the OEM NGK's. I have them and there is a slight loss in low RPM's. Don't get me wrong, my car runs like a bat out of hell being that I'm still stock performance wise but my old NGK's definitely made my engine feel more responsive to my low end power.
