Rear Brake Caliper.

I had my 99 max in to have the rear brakes checked due to loud squeling noise. I brought it to a local shop and they tell me that the pads in the rear do need to be replaced which was fine with me but then they tell me that my right rear caliper is shot. They said it was sticking and that it would need to be replaced. Not ONLY that on but the other side would need to be replaced because your not suppose to replaced just one side they boht have to be done at the same time! No here is my actual question... is this covered under warranty? I still have the warranty and my car has only 23k miles? Those calipers shouldn't be shot after only 23K... right? Well if anyone can enlighten me on this I would appreciate it. I tried searching through some of the threads already posted but all I am finding is that this is normal for 4th Gen's but I haven't read anything about warranties?

Thanks
Neil

Since warranty work is not nationally consistent, you would have to actually go back to your particular dealer to see if it's covered. Have you inspected your warranty coverage??

It does seem if your car is still under the warranty, it should be covered.

I'm not sure if these calipers fall under my warranty. I would hope they do. I am just wondering if anyone else on the fourm had the same issue with their calipers? I know I'll have to take it in to the dealership but knowing them they'll try and pass this off as a normal ware and tare item. Which I don't think it would be? Please correct me if I am worng.. I've just never had to replace a caliper on any of my cars ...well unless I wanted to upgrade them. But never from breaking down.

I have not personally read any such problems. Have you tried searching using the feature in the upper right hand side of this page?

Since caliper replacement is not a regularly scheduled maintainance item, I don't see how the dealer could refuse the work. But then again, I've seen Nissan dealer try to weasel out of everything.

Again, have you examined your warranty coverage and your Nissan FSM? You need to examine those more than you need maxima.org owner experiences right now. Even if one owner was successful w/ the dealer, it might not be the same w/ YOUR dealer.

check your warranty you should be covered! At 23,000 miles that is very rare! I had an extended warranty and had both of my rear calipers replaced at 70,000 miles due to "confirmed"sticking/torn seals. I would go back to this particular dealer as well, and have all of your information with you. 96se 161,500 miles Oh and if i were you i would personally view the (rear caliper) that was sticking, whereas it should show some "uneven" pad wear when compared to the other rear caliper/brake pad side. Have you heard/felt any brake lag and or dragging? Keep us posted Good luck!
