What is this hose?

I saw this cracked and leaking hose when I was replacing my fuel filter. Gawd this car is showing its age.

Planning on light driving in the next two weeks... 5 mile commute to work. Should I leave her sit while I wait for a replacement part?

How hard is it to replace this hose? Looks pretty easy but looks can be deceiving...

Hose just pulls off. Last one I replaced I think I used reg. coolant heater hose. I believe it is just a breather hose between valve covers.

Ah. So it probably isn't impacting performance? It seems to be leaking oil.

This hose your referring to it's a crankcase ventilator hose. It helps to keep the cams cool.

Yes, it is the crankcase ventilation hose. It is used to suck oil vapor fumes out of the engine via the PCV valve.

Thanks! I'll probably order it.

Could this cause a vacuum leak?

These vacuum leaks on this type of vent hoses will effect the motors performance. The improper breathing and cooling won't let your car run right.

Hmmm wonder if I'm blaming my MAF for something that this hose is causing...

Any tricks to replacing this hose? Doesn't even look like it's clamped on.

Just ordered it from the site you linked! Thanks! Hopefully it will get here before I have to go on business again :P

It's obvious you have a problem, Maf,coils, injectors. I and many others have stated what the problems could be. I would start pulling away with the Maf first. I had the stalling or slight cutoff and hesitation at the red lights that was the Maf. The accelerations were also affected by the Maf. The next thing we should here, is that was the problem or you got it fixed.

Thanks! Switched the MAF out for the remanned one and the car just doesn't start at all now. Tried the OEM again and it didn't help. Chasing down the ignition issue in a separate thread

Also I replaced this hose - only took about 5 minutes, just had to wait for the part to come in. Now to see if it helps after the car starts...
