As you all may know, the fuel rail is a discontinued part, and the injectors are screwed in. No bolts, no hex, but damn screws. I've stripped many screws from fuel rails I've pulled off of junk cars, no luck with WD-40 either. I just need to replace my fuel injectors and regulator.

Don't panic. Here's some inside information.

The Phillips head looking screws you see on fuel rails are not really Phillips head at all. They are known as Japanese Industrial Standard (JIS) screws.

Check out this thread and video to see the difference.

Using a JIS driver makes removing the injector and fuel pressure regulator screws short work.

You can get close to making your own JIS driver by filing the tip on a #2 as shown in the picture.

Then use a 1/2 drive and lean into it to apply weight while breaking the screws loose.

I found this to be the easiest to use tool for removing rail screws.

I did not realize that the screws were is when I did my injectors.

I used a small, looking vice grip. I grabbed the sides of the screws.

Worked fine for removal.

I replaced the screws with hex head bolts of the sname size and pitch

+1 I've done that also before I knew about JIS also. I have removed the injector rails and used vice grips to grab the screws by the head.

Note JVG's reference to small vice grips. Just a note to be careful to avoid a situation like the guy in this 240 thread below.

For Injector Caps and the Fuel Pressure Regulator, on the last job I used M5 (size) 0.8 (pitch) and 20mm (length) with M5 lock washers. I get Hillman Stainless Socket Head Screws from Lowe's or Ace Hardware.

For the job in the picture, I used 16mm length. The 20mm length has been easier to get lately.
