Weird Key Problem: 1 key starts but car stops immediately

Hi:

I am having the weirdest of the problems with my car keys. One of my key works fine. The other starts the car fine but then immediately the engine shuts down! The starter assembly was replaced 1 week back. At that time I had taken only the key that works fine to the dealer.

Incidentally, the key that works fine has a small cut on the plastic piece => key can come off the keyring and get lost easily. What are my options (e.g., superglue, electric tape, pay the dealer 100 bucks, ...)?

1999 1/2 GLE: The key apparently has a chip inside.

Replacement keys are about 40-45 bucks. The key that starts and then shuts down, does it have a chip inside? I had copies made of my chipped key at ace hardware, same problem. Went back and did it right at dealership, all chipped keys now start and keep running with no problem. As for the cut piece which keeps the key on the ring...??? I don't know, maybe find a larger colored key ring, the kind which slip on the key with different colors so keys which look alike can be told apart. Hope this helps.
