Paintjob ?'s

Alright I decided to go for a whole new paintjob today. I am scheduled for 1st week in March.

My question is, how long after the new paint do I wax the car to keep the paint nice?

For information, the entire car will be taken apart...paint sanded off then dents removed, prime, paint, bake. The entire car, doors, hood, trunk, bumpers, fenders, roof, etc. He is also shaving the trunk key hole and welding it from the inside. Total is $1,300 for parts and labor and he needs one week. He is using Nissan Factory Paint. I know it's cheap, but its a favor and he does amazing work.

My guess would be 2 months, but I'm sure Don in Texas would know, or even Shadow.

Yes, but how soon after the paint is done do I put wax on, that night, a week later, after a month...etc.

That's a great place to check, you can also ask your body shop guy and he'll tell you what he recomends. When my car was painted they told me no wax for 6 months, said this will allow the paint to cure 100%. Great price, is he using tape or removing and reinstalling?

Remove and install...completely sanding and prime again...should look factory fresh. I am staying with black, I like it and it would be too much of a hassle to change colors, I would want it done correct, not just sprayed, so the engine would need to be removed...etc..

Thanks everyone, that site is great...I think I will wait 3-4 months to give it a good wax..

There will be 3 guys working on my car at once, in three different "bays" or tents...for black paint you need the tent or something like that.

Is 1300 pretty cheap for that kind of paint job? I will be looking to do the same sometime over the summer. What is the average price for a job like that? Thanks!

With all of the other stuff added in..shaved holes. looking at $4000-5000. My body shop charges $3500 to paint a car the same color and that is taking out the windows, molding, etc. Does not include painting of the jams or anything.
Actually you dont even have to paint any of the door jams since you are staying the same color. It would match just as good if you painted them or not.

They won't do it again for this price. I promised not to tell the shop name. Another shop that I use that does great work is Anthony's Auto Body in Red Bank/Shrewsbury. Talk to Anthony only, tell him Brian from Tronix sent you.

I live in Monmouth County, I go to School at RU. Spyhunter goes to school at Monmouth U. Come to a Johnson park meet and you can see my car, if not, we can set up a time to meet up...e-mail me.

Spyhunter is on the board, he has a third Gen. You need to watch the NE forum for Johnson Park meets...most likely in late March early April.
