Promblems installing my buddies Y-pipe, where should we take it now?

We were installing my buddies Warpspeed y-pipe tonight and ran into a major problem. We got the 6 bolts off of the first two flanges and then went back to get the ones of the cat and found that one of the bolts was rounded off. So we tried to get the other one and it wouldnt budge, we tried an impact wrench 1/2 ratchet everything but that bolt would not budge. So now we are going to have to take it somewhere because the bolt that is rounded off is going to need to be cut off because nothing can grip it to get it off. Where would a good place go to have them cut the bolt off? I guess while they have it up there we should just have them install the damn thing also. Where is a decent place to have this done? Any help with any of this would be great. THanks

any muffler shop should be able to get that bolt off for you. y-pipe is a pretty simple install so they really can't goof on that. might cost you ~$25 though.

Assuming you've saturated the bolts w/ penetrating oil and still can't get them off, I would think any exhaust shop could do the work for you. Some, however; won't install the ypipe because it is against federal emissions to remove the precats. It will depend on the shop. Is it an option for you to cut off the bolts yourself? Can you use a cutting wheel on a dremel? Good luck. I need to get a ypipe.

Hmmm, I guess we could maybe cut it off ourselves. I know Sears has a bunch of $70 dremel tools on sale for $25 so maybe if I got one from there I could cut the bolt off and replace it myself. Do you think it would really only cost $25 for the install? If thats the case we mise well just take it to get installed. Im glad I didnt run into any of these problems while installing my y-pipe, but my buddy is pretty ****ed about it. You guys think I should just have it installed? What place usually refuses to put it on? Thanks

I think sx7r was referring to removing the bolts only. I know that here in MD. a shop charged $70 to install a ypipe. That seems reasonable to me. I am going to try mine myself first though. As for who won't install them; it depends on the various shop. Some don't care and want your business and others are sticklers for the rule and won't do it. Just call around. Again, good luck. Yeah I guess we'll have to take it in tomorrow, that sucks because we could have done it by ourselves easily. I did mine on my car and was hoping to do my buddies but I guess there has to be a problem some time. Any suggestions on which place to stay away from. Here in my town I have Midas, Meineke, and then a few local places that I just looked up in the phone book. They are Import Specialists, Advanced Auto Pros, Hi Tech Auto. Ive heard to stay away from the chain stores, why is this? Do they typically do a bad job? Thanks

Its about a 10 minute job to cut the bolts off with a cutting torch. I paid the guy with a pizza for cutting mine off.

I would go to a shop to cut the bolt, but I wouldnt pay them to install the Y-pipe. Sounds like you got the hard part done already. Once you get those 6 bolts off the front of the car, its very very easy. You just gotta get some slack on the O2 sensors and plug those in, then bolt on the pipe. Its hardly worth paying someone money to do it.

I had exactly the same problem with mine. You don't need to cut it off! All you have to do is get a butane gas torch and heat up the nuts. They'll come off very easily. I think those gas torches run about $10. If you go to a muffler shop, it'll probably cost you $15. Those gas torches are handy!

any "independent" muffler shop will usually do it
