pretty good odo reading. title of post could be a bit more specific without giving away the surprise. this title was too ambiguous but i wanted to see what new post in 4th gen has to say.

Sometime in 2019 I will stop and take a pic of my then 24yo bought new in 95 Maxima hitting 100K.. at about 98K now. so possibly around next may .
have not had a car payment since 2000 so there is that . it's a daily driver too. just never had much of a commute.

An FYI - In NY, after a car is 25 yrs old, it qualifies as "historical", and insurance drops way low, and plates are cheaper also. MAy be somethin g for you to look into. Mine is 20 yrs. old, with 113K miles. It has jsut about been flawless. Wonder if the fact that it was built in Japan is the reason.

You should send that photo and little background on your car to Nissan USA Corporate.

That's totally impressive and a testament to quality of the 4th and of the quality of the care you've given it.

I have this philosophy ... ... any dip-s**t earning a paycheck can buy a new car. Not everyone can keep an old one.

I would except Nissan Corporate couldn't care less about me or my car.
Little story-- About a year ago I had the dreaded "no start" issue where the theft immobilizer system malfunctioned and stopped recognizing my key, thereby not allowing me to start the car at all. I had it towed to the local dealership who wanted $2500 (yes you read that right) saying the whole ECU along with the immobilizer unit had to be replaced, knowing damn well my car isn't worth anywhere near that. When I called Nissan Corporate to ask with financial assistance they basically told me to go screw myself. So they put a system in a car KNOWING that when it broke they could collect thousands. Screw them. I found a local locksmith who was familiar with the problem and he rechipped my key and reprogrammed my ECU for $200. But I digress....

Congrats on hitting 400k!! What a milestone that not many get to achieve on their cars.. so the car is a '99? That immobilizer issue sucks! Good thing you fixed it for $200. What's your secret to keeping a car running this long?

What are the lists of parts you have replaced within these 400k miles?! It would be interesting to see. Any exterior pics?

I' ve only had it for 3 years so the props really need to go to the previous owner(s). It ran great when I bought it, only problem was the front suspension was terrible. So list of parts:
Shocks/ struts
Control arms
Tie rods
Sway bar linkage
(All of the above I got in a kit from rockauto for $300, I was lucky as I don't believe they offer that kit anymore.)
Tires
That's about it for parts, mostly wear and tear stuff.
Oh I did have to get the AC fixed this past summer, by far the most expensive thing I've ever had to do- about $800. I would have tackled it myself and saved bookoo bucks but I had a trip planned to Dallas in the middle of summer two days later and I was pressed for time so I had my local mechanic do it.

Didn't that guy have a million miles on his?
If mine makes it that far I might think about it. Until then, considering the way I was treated by them, they can suck it. That doesn't mean I wouldn't buy another 4th gen Maxima, but I won't have anything to do with their corporate leg or their dealer network anymore.
BTW, if you think I'm being a bit grudgy, just wait until you have the immobilizer issue. A car that everything is fine with suddenly won't start at all and leaves you completely stranded, due to a system disguised as a "safety feature" but really put in place solely to eventually fail and garner tons of profit for them. It's a racket plain and simple. Sorry but I can't view it any other way after the outrageous quote I got from the dealership and then their complete non-response to my request for assistance.

But I digress...

OUCH! That stuff from China, especially Starters and Alternators have a higher probability of failure than reliability.

Go OEM used and maybe even find a reputable rebuilder to freshen it up if it's looking tired.

This afternoon i "ran into" a guy from Phillie with a similar Maxima to my '98 Artic White Maxima. He was telling me that he has another '98 back home that had just turned 1/2 Million miles - 500K - 500,000 miles ! I convinced his to post about it in this site, so when he gets back home, he plans to fill us in.

So Wayne, congrats on the Half a Mil, and also for the grill ! I owe someone a favor to pay it back !

At present I see no reason mine won't hit the 500k mark-
But even if it went out on me tomorrow I'd say I got my money's worth out of it! (Then i would go look for another one!)

I also blamed the starter and went through 3 of them, working after each starter change, but failing after a while. Until it didn't start while I was on a roadtrip, couldn't change the starter, so I had to figure out that with each starter replacement I was touching or disconnecting the battery terminals. I got the terminals in order and no more problems.

Get a multimeter and check resistance from the terminals.

Update:
I sold my Maxima a couple days ago. Just felt it was time after having the honor of having it hit 400k while driving it.
It drove absolutely fine up through the test drive. Then coincidentally, the day after I sold it the buyer reported that it would not start-- the starter had completely failed.
I found an OEM starter at a local yard. So I took that one to the buyer. When we took the O'Reillys starter off and compared to the OEM, lo and behold we discovered that the OEM starter has 11 teeth on the gear whereas the O'Reilly's starter only had 10! I believe that's the reason this one failed- slipping on the flywheel (there was evidence of this too with some shiny metal on the edge of the flywheel teeth) and having to work harder overall to crank the engine. We installed the OEM starter and it definitely had a tighter feel installing it as I had to jiggle it a lot more to get the gear teeth aligned to mesh with the flywheel. Fired right up on the first turn of the key.
Moral of the story- skip O'Reillys if you have to buy a starter for your Maxima!!!

P.S. I am already missing that car!!! Gotta find another one soon

people jinx themselves talking about their great running max, i have original starter but everything else is f'ing been replaced twice!! car has def seen better days and at 291,00 i hope she's good for another 100,000!!
