What's location?

What's your budget?

How far, if at all, are you willing travel?

Thx but none of those locations are near me. (I see the crimson blaze one but it's in California and I'm in Arkansas.) Closest one is Oklahoma City and I'm not going to spend $3500 on a 20 year old car. Some of the asking prices on that site are ridiculous. $4500 for a 99 Maxima with over 300,000 miles??
I'm giving Wizard a hard time, I really don't care about the color of the car as long as it isn't ragged out and I can get it for a decent price.
The one I posted above decked out with the rear spoiler mud flaps etc looks to be the best option for me at this point. Appears to be well taken care of and is a good price IMO. It's still 3 hours away but it's the best deal. Still waiting to hear back from the guy on setting up a time to see it.

Wizard you'll be happy to know I came across this one this morning just a few miles away from my home:

2000 Maxima SE in STERLING MIST!! Asking $1500 OBO has just over 200k miles. I'll take it f it's not gone by the time I can go look at it, messaged the seller and he's showing it to someone right now.

Sometimes I'm amused by people's priorities.

Given the fact that we are really talking about how to get a good car at a decent price, color would be one of the lowest priorities. Condition should be the highest priority.

Ok, I'll take exception to pink cars. Lol.

My 1996 maxima is midnight evergreen, or what ever Nissan called it. I live where it is dark and rainy. I seldom see a green car. Mine looks black. The color was not my favorite, but I bought a good car which has served me well for 12 years.

I came across a 2003 Toyota Corolla a couple of years ago. It had 110k on it. It is medium old man grey. Boring. But I'm 64. Call me an old man.
I bought the car for 500 dollars. It needed engine work. I rebuilt the engine myself, and other stuff while I was in there anyway. All for additional 1k.
Now I have a boring car which works perfectly.
Oh well........

If you're not far from NY, I got a nice Sagemist Green '97 5spd that runs mint with some mods if you don't mind a little rust

Sorry but circumstances may dictate I have to grab this, I'm selling the Honda either tonight or tomorrow morning and then I will be down to just my 1969 VW bug. I love that car but it ain't making it 3 hours to go look at another car. This one is pretty much right by my house. I actually prefer the cloth over the leather (get tired of stuff slip sliding around on that leather all the time, can't tell you how many times I've turned a corner and then had to fish for my phone on the floor.) Do wish it had a sunroof but I'll live

Question: Did the 5th gen Maximas still have the same trouble with the immobilizer as the 99 4th gen?

Any other differences between the two generations besides the body styling?

The immobilizer issue doesn't seem to plague the 5th gens like it did the 99.

Well, for starters, you'll get the better upper manifold ie 00VI. which is a nice 25 to 30 hp bump in power over the 95-99 USIM.

AAhh- that's definitely something to consider seeing as how this whole thread was started because of lack of power in this 4 banger Honda

Well, I'm currently in the process of reinventing the wheel on buttercup. I didn't like the hacked up front motor mount, so... The turbo set up has been completely redone.

I just got my set of redlion rising motor mounts so they are getting installed tomorrow and then we are gonna finish fabbing up the tiny piece of exhaust from the back of the turbo to my exhaust.

Then it is turn the key and try again.

So...

I test drove the 2000 today and the acceleration is exactly what I've been missing, loved it. Drove OK for the most part BUT has some issues:

1. AC does not work, seller bypassed the compressor by "using a shorter belt" (his words)
2. Pretty hard pull to the right and part of the bumper skin is torn and loose on the driver's side, seller said he had a slight front impact he mumbled about hitting someting... Probably just be easiest to get a whole new front bumper, and an alignment
3. Windshield is cracked and will need to be replaced
4. Some iffy stuff going on in one of the relay boxes, a few of them were pulled out of their sockets (in fact I don't even remember the sockets being there) and just sitting on top with wiring going to them. Don't know if that means anything or not
Some other nitpicky comsetic stuff I could probably overlook. He also said one of the exhaust flanges had rusted and gone bad so he had Midas cut and weld a new pipe in.

Has about 260k miles. Seller asking $1500 but is open to offers. I straight out told him the AC may or may not be expensive-- impossbile to know until inspected. He swears it's just the compressor clutch but you can't be too cautious.
One other thing- after seeing it in person I really do NOT like that sterling mist color. I am not joking this time. I really thought it was mostly gray but with a very slight bronze or copper tint to it-- nope it is STRAIGHT gray. But I can get past it.

thoughts?

The AC, the sketchy relays, and the fact that the owner admitting to crashing into something which causes the bumper cover to not fight right and probably the hard pull to the right. Asking price does not match condition of car. That's a $750 car tops.

He didn't really "admit" it...
I pointed out the damage in the front and he said "Yeah I... think i hit... mumble mumble mumble...." as he looked down at the ground
It was kind of funny

It's too bad because the engine power was stellar.

You must be up in NWA. You'll have a good selection up there. Every once in a while I see some nice ones from the Bella Vista area. Also, I've seen some sweet Infiniti deals over in Tulsa.

The bottom line here ... again is... what's you budget?

Purchase a car for $1,500 and then need to put $1,500 to $2,000 into it for repairs and "corrections" and what have you got? Not to mention it's got 260,000 miles on it.

Perhaps starting your search in the $2,500 to $3,000 range would serve you better.

Geezus, offer me $4,000 for mine, I just might even think about it ... prolly not, but maybe.

Hey there-
Yep in Bentonville, sorry to disagree but doesn't really seem to be a good selection up here at least right now. Everything I've seen so far is like that one I just test drove that needs too much work for the money. But I've only been looking for a few days. I'm sure there's one out there for me just got to keep looking. I'm patient.

I already decided that car wasn't worth it. And my budget is what I am willing to spend which is south of $2k. Why? Because there are plenty of 4th gen and early 5th gen maximas out there in good/ great condition for around $2k or less. I posted a link to one, and you all jumped down my throat because GULP you didn't like the Sunlit Sand color. I'll keep looking- I've got time.

This looks like a bad paint job. I could be wrong, but I don't believe I30's ever came in crimson blaze. Hopefully you are not considering this car with 312k miles when you just sold your Max because it hit 400k

No this one was a joke post-- especially considering their asking price.
I came across a 2001 I30 on FB Marketplace yesterday right by my area that only has 186k on it and looked in great shape for around the same price. Unfortunately same story as always when you try to message someone about a car for sale on FB, they answer one time to tell you there's someone coming to look at it tonight, then when you keep messaging to try to find out whether the car sold you never hear back from them again.
Swear to God I've never seen bigger flakes than the ones I've run into on FB marketplace, not even craigslist
