Oops, I lied. Ahhh to be 19 years younger and only 54 again.
Impressive that at your age you know how to operate a computer and post pictures. My Dad is about your age and wouldn't even know how to turn the computer on.

I bet most of the people on this board don't even know or remember that the internet first came through the phone line and was slow as hell.

/story. Back on topic

If I thought this was real, I would jump on it.. Does having a strong engine mean the transmission is weak?

It's not real. Anytime no phone number is left and that kind of price it's spam. (Also I am originally from Little Rock and I don't recognize the area of that photo anywhere. )

Even if it was real, you have heard about the horrendous failure rate of Nissan's CVT transmissions right? Those JATCO trannies are complete junk. Nothing after 2003 for me thanks.

Thanks- yes I had seen that one, and was keeping it in mind but it appears to be a GXE or a stripped down SE, definitely not GLE- no sunroof, no leather, etc. Pretty pricey IMO but does look like it's in good shape though. He'd have to come down about $1k for me to feel good about the buy and I seriously doubt he'd do that.

So I went and looked at this one yesterday:

https://www.facebook.com/marketplace...80224496223689

Looks pretty nice for the price right? Well it was the most hideous running POS I've ever encountered- engine shook like crazy, transmission slipped and absolutely zero power when I tried to accelerate. and the ad says 200k miles on it but there were actually 290k. I was pretty pissed for running over to Tulsa and wasting my time.

Then I drove to Springfield and looked at this one today:

https://springfield.craigslist.org/c...728157107.html

While better than the first, it still had issues- front passenger wheel bearing was going out, oil leaks all around the crankcase, etc. What really concerned me was when I pulled the dipstick and it was full all the way to the top. Ugh. The final straw was they wouldn't even let me test drive it (which they didn't tell me on the phone.) Again I was pretty pissed.

I got a rental car to do all this driving around so I'm out about $200 already and nothing to show for it. So that's it- I'll wait for one to pop up in my area and drive my 69 bug around in the meantime.

Thanks for the link- that looks like a good deal but the dent in the driver's quarter looks pertty bad, think they used "creative" steps to make it not look as bad in the photo as it probably actually is. (They should have taken a whole driver's side photo of the car so the dent size and shape is easier to see, but they did a close up so it's harder to tell.)
Rest of the car looks great. May be worth a look as I still have the rental car ...

This might help with the dent

But, if the car is otherwise good, then it my still be worth $1800

Any car under $2000 isn't going to be perfect

Many thanks to Maximaxi for pointing out the car I ended up buying today. Got it for $1600. Runs very good nice and smooth, has a slight shudder when I accelerate hard hoepfully something not too terrible, but normal acceleration it drives great, definitely the best one I drove. Rear quarter dent is not THAT bad, it is a nice round dent so probably easier to pull out and fix. Trunk opener switch inside drivers door is broken but they threw in a replacement (alas the car did not come with the keyless entry fob... I'll have to find one on ebay or somewhere and program it.)
The only real mechanical issue I have with it is the AC- it blows but not cold. I don't think the compressor is kicking on when I hit AUTO, at least I don't hear it and there doesn't seem to be a drop in RPM. Hopefully that's all that is.
The 3.5 V6 accelerates like crazy, beat a Dodge Ram sitting next to me at the light. But I don't want to do that too much before i get the shudder checked.
Will post pics when I get a chance- wait this is the 4th gen forum--

See yall!

Yes sir I did, and I know right where that sign is too-- 11th street & I-44! Passed right by it on my way back to Ark.

After a little research I am pretty sure the shudder I get on acceleration is bad tie rods (at least i hope so- I changed those in the Maxima soon after I bought it so this one shouldn't be too different.)
Time to jack this thing up and check for play

Lower control arms, tie rods, wheel bearings, even uneven tire wear could cause shaking. Steering feel loose? If you take the time you can test/inspect all 3 to know what needs replaced.

Almost definitely not a wheel bearing-- no noise at all from any wheels. Steering does not wobble at all. Tires are brand new. Really feel like it boils down to control arms and/ or tie rods. I'll check for excessive play when i get a chance. I replaced all that on my 99 Maxima soon after i bought it and it was a fairly easy afternoon job so something like that doesn't worry me too much.
Guess I ought to start posting in the Infiniti forum too....
