raced a '02 Turbo VW Bug Tonight...

and got the **** beaten out of me. i have a stock 5-speed, and by the time i shifted into second, the turbo s VW bug was already pulling ahead. when i hit about 120 mph, he was at least seven or eight car lengths ahead of me...and i would say i'm an ok driver. the blow-off valves on those things are loud too...it was funny seeing a fast bug though. the guy said it was stock...anyone drive one of these recently? i was wondering if they really are quick stock...

If he had a BOV that you could hear, he wasnt stock. They use a diverter valve that vents back into the intake, not a BOV that vents to the atmosphere.

It requires a little work to get a 1.8t to use a BOV reliably.

You got wasted by a modded new beetle.

Hope that makes you feel better.

He might have been chipped because supposedly the new bug turbo s or whatever the hell they call them do 0-60 in 7.4. But then again, that's a magazine that probably doesn't know how to drive for some reason. I seriously doubt he was stock if he beat you that badly. I figure it would be a pretty close race even if the 0-60 time is off a little.

i duno, the story sounds a little BS to me, duno why, the first thing is that his screen name implies a GLE trim of maxima, yet he drives a 5 speed, and where are u gonna race a bug from stop to 120, i know there are places, but it just seems a little undetailed, nah its mostly the gle parts thats buggin me, sorry

Don't you think if he made it up that he would end it with him winning? That's how all MY fake races go

and my creative mind goes off...

i think this is the real story, i didnt think he was completely lying, he drives his automatic GLE, pulls up next to a non turbo bug, they race to 35 and the bug is in front of him, thats the real story, sorry guy, thtas what my psychic powers tell me, its understandable, but u ruined the story with the GLE/5 speed thing!

Re: raced a '02 Turbo VW Bug Tonight...

Man I bought this car in 98 so is 4 years old, all of a sudden 2000 rolls around the max is 220HP, now is 2002 the Max now has 255HP and 6 speed, and the altima 240HP so now I am like WT heck is going on around here I am going to get smoked left and right so I am not buying a new car no time soon so lets get some forced induction, and I did installed it this weekend, just having a little belt problem but that should be solved tonight or by wednesday since for the 5th time my vacation papers get denied that makes me angry.

No worries, Jay... Once you get the problems fixed... you won't have many cars to fear... You will be able leave an IS300 like he is standing still (I did that after a week of my installation, even with my huge 18" rims and tires).

JAY25,

The new Altima is actually faster than the new Maxima (2002) due to their weight. The Sport Compact Car did some 0-30, 0-60 tests.

I also think the 200-2002 Max's are a little heavier than ours (my soon to be 98 SE).

Re: Re: raced a '02 Turbo VW Bug Tonight...

SCC can't drive worth a shia. They only got 14.9 for the new Alty V6 5spd, and 15.0 or something for the 2k2 Maxima 6spd...yet guys here have been getting low-14's bone stock with the 6spd Maxima. Go figure...

Also, that Turbo Bug was definitely modded/chipped - esp if you heard the BOV and if he pulled on you that much. I think they come with a recirculating type BOV stock which you don't hear stock so it was definitely modded

Sorry sorry that I haven't responded yet...what's it been a day or two? Anyways, yeah I realized I do have a GXE, I bought the car used a while ago and thought I had a GLE...real sorry about that...someone told me awhile ago, I just haven't changed my name. Anyways, I think Max95SE or something lives near me, near Foster City...ask him about the long road near the bridge, a few stop signs, there are races there all the time.

I don't know about that BUG. If its 2002 1.8t and it is already modded like that i think that owner must ne rich. The cars engine is not even broken in yet for it to be getting that kind of power to it. He didnt say if it was lowered, had an exhaust, and a whole mess of other things. Sorry, bro i live and work around turbo people especially mechanics and if this BUG was that modified he must have one heck of a warranty on his engine..lol. Besides the new 1.8t is 180hp's, i know this becasue i am contemplating on whether to get a 1.8t GTI or Vr6 GTI, so next time you see that BUG, squash it, and show it a couple of double clutch and heel and toe monuevers, with your 5 speed GLE , must of been some conversion.

I don't know if it had exhaust or what-not, but it was pretty damn loud...i've heard of the term double-clutch, but what exactly does it mean?

Heh nice post. Too bad your info is wrong. The 2002 Maxima weighs exactly the same as the Altima, actually 1 lb lighter if you look at the published numbers. And by the way if you trust magazine times as the true measure of a cars performance you have some learning to do...

15.0 in a new maxima hahaha.

THose 01 turbo bugs are actually pretty quick. My girlfriend has one and I drove it once on a trip and was pretty impressed with how quick it was. I would never own one but they are pretty quick. THe 01 is 150hp and the 02 is 180 both turbos. Just thought it post since someone asked about the 01 bug. Take Care

Re: i'm sick and tired of this

What are you talking about I smoked a LS430 on the highway so relax, Matt Mardigras max spanked a WS6 thats a 320HP corvette engine, and also my so called friend who swore he had the the most powerful car at the track Matt spanked that Mustang GT pretty bad all 3 times, he was pist at the end he said ddddddaaaaa!!!!!!!your boyz max is fast. So bugz aint really about nothing and why would someone spend soo much money on an ugly thing with no space like someone said let the wind pick up it will move you out of the way. Also the new maximas are running 14.4's not 15 flats.
