Battery draining

A friend gave us his Maxima '97, but a couple days later it wouldn't start. There was some energy but not enough to start the engine. We decided to change the battery, but it was drained in a few days as well. After letting it sit for a number of weeks, I took a look at it again today and noticed a loose fuse near the right side of the engine wall. That couldn't be it, right? Went to see about charging the battery we'd recently bought. They said the battery nodes weren't functioning properly, and gave us another. So, it started up with the newest battery, and I'll see tomorrow it there's any signs of the battery losing energy.

Which loose fuse? You need to be more specific.

Photos help.

Are there warning lights on the dashboard? If so, which ones?

Thanks for your reply, JvG.
I believe it was the AIRCON (7.5A), though could I be recalling it wrong and it was the one just below it, which is ALT.S (7.5A) ?

(I'll try sending a photo later.)

Regarding warning lights on the dashboard, there appeared, on the drive to work, a Engine Service Soon light. But other than that, none. It started up this morning (after 12 hrs parked), with no difficulty, but the digital clock display went blank and I thought maybe the electric door unlocking didn't respond initially when pushed the clicker, and maybe the radio antenna didn't come up immediately.

disconnect battery negative and bridge a ammeter or incandescent test lamp across the disconnected negatives after the ECU gets 1hr to go to sleep, high amp reading or bright test light means big draw somewhere
