9004 HID Beam Pattern?

I see that quite a few of you guys on this forum have HIDs, but i thought that you cannot stick a D2S or D2R bulb in a 9004 housing. 9004 and H3 have horizontal filiments, while 9006, h4 etc. have a vertical filiment. Since HIDs are vertical, wouldn't the beam pattern be totally wrong and light will enter the high beam portion of the reflector? Basically, I have a 98 I30 and I want HIDs. What kits work? I've seen many people sell the "HID" brand HID kit. The kit comes in a black box with a C Class mercedes on it. They make everysize and it comes with philips ballast and a D2R bulb. I see many K2/Vision kits, but i hear those aren't that great because of the Korean bulb, but they do come with a panasonic ballast. Any help will be appreciated...Thanx

What you have stated is something myself and some others have been preaching. HB1 housings were not designed for the HID capsules and using these conversions does more harm than good.

Consider yourself lucky that you own an I30. You can upgrade your headlamps with these units...if you're up to spending the money.

These lamps use the venerable H4 capsule and are the best thing you can do to improve your lighting situation.

I own the Hanabi 9004 kit and the only thing I need to do is focus my beam toward the ground a bit. The beam pattern is perfect otherwise.

What do you do when you need highbeams?

dang...those r sum tight headlights on the side, and that white I30 on there is sick too. MMM...325 for headlamp conversion AND about 450 for HIDS..thats a lotta dough. I am still wondering if any company makes a 9004 kit that works...i think the "HID" brand in the black box with the C class on it and Philips stuff in it might work? any one try that kit? what other kits r u guys using hanabi, hid4less etc.? THANX

The headlamp conversion link I showed you is to conver to a E-code H4 headlamp system. You won't want to ruin these lamps with one of those aftermarket HID conversion kits. In you case, the thing to do would be to spend the $325 on the H4 lamps and not worry about losing your highbeams and glare. Copy?

Nothing. I just live with it but I've been on some very dark roads and these lights illuminate signs and the lines on the road nicely.
