Please help....changing spark plugs

I own a 1995 SE and have changed my plugs yesterday. However I purchased Bosch Platinums #4201 instead of the stock NGK Platinums PFR5G-11.

I know that the NGK have .044 gap but do not know what the gap is for the Bosch's. Do I need to adjust the gap prior to installing them?

If anyone has the specs (or knows the gap) for these Bosch Platinums #4201 please reply to this post.

Thanks

No, All Bosch Platinums are pre-gapped to factory specs. You can tell by opening the package and seeing the little plastic tube around the nipple. Believe me I used to work for Trak Auto.

Thanks for the quick response. One more quick question. The end of the Bosch spark plugs (the little nipple) can be unthreaded....why is that? The NGK plug end nipple does not come off, so why do the Bosch ones do?

I'm concerned that while putting in the plugs I may have accidentally unthreaded them just a bit....should I be concerned?

Thanks again.

i was also interested in those spark plugs

I was ready to get the Bosh +4 PLatinum Spark plugs but someone from this site said they were not good for some reason...he wasn't too clear so maybe it was just him having the problem. Anyway, i plan on getting platinum plugs soon and if these are better than the NGK and won't give me problems, i'll definitely get them. But hopefully, and unfortunately, i'll have to use Mikey as my little test dummy....hope everything goes well....

NGK all the way. This was discussed many times before. Bosch at your own risk

It doesn't hurt to check the gap again. Gap is .044" regardless what brand.

Absolutely nothing wrong with the Bosch. I've had them in for 30k miles and the car runs like a gazelle. Alot cheaper than the NGK's as well.

Bosch will affect each maxima differently.. some people have no problems some people do..

with Bosch i notice a drop in performance on high end.. alot of people did also. Some people noticed other problems too.. it varies from car to car..

Over 20 members found NO Problems with Bosch Plat 4's.. not to say you will or you won't...

Any NGK Coppers have better spark than NGK Plats and Bosch Plats and are $0.69 each or so.. you just have to change them 30k instead of 60k

I just installed Bosch Platinums in my 98 se last sunday. My local Checker auto parts store was out of NGK's for the maxima so I settled for the Bosch plugs. So far I have no regrets, It seems as if I have slightly more pull on the top end. I guess time will tell if these plugs are any good.

Anybody know what the life of these plugs are?

On some cars, the spark plug wires are designed to connect to the threaded post that the nipple is screwed on to. I always take a pair of pliers and tighten them before I install the plugs. A loose one will mean a loose electrical connection. This may be the cause of "drivability problems" some members have experienced with Bosch.

Also, be very careful about gapping platinum plugs. The tips are very delicate and are easily damaged. They make a special tool made specifically for gapping platinum plugs.
