Idiot at Radio Shack.

Went to Radio Shack the other day to get a switch in order to do ben's speed limiter removal mod. Got in there, found a switch that would do just fine, then asked him for some wire for it. Guy told me some 18 gauge would do just fine (18 gauge SPEAKER WIRE!). I looked at him, told him he had no clue what he was talking about, put the switch back, and went to another radio shack about 5 min. away at a mall. I can't believe it still that he tried to sell me speaker wire. Moron.

Actually, speaker wire would have worked fine, I'm sure. But better to use at least 12 guage high temp wire, just in case.

But I see your point...he should have known you were trying to do the job right.

I used speaker wire. It's good because the two leads in one strand is much easier to run than two seperate wires.

I took some pics to end the confusion about which wire to cut, but I havent scanned them yet.

95emeraldgxe, can you chill with the unneeded remarks. This is one of the reasons why we keep getting this server message. I'd rather see you put up a smilie than to reply with no meaning at all.

dude, yes radio crack does suck, but don't hate on all radio crack employees. and if you couldn't figure out why i am raising a stink, its because i work for radio crack. the reason the dude was trying to sell you speaker wire is he was seeing if you had all that you need to do the project right. i've seen the same customers come in four times in one day because they think they have what they need but they don't.

as for speaker wire...wire is esstentially wire. ther are some differences...but don't assume the guy is an idiot. chances are that if he's been there for awhile, he's had to go through about 15-20 different training programs to know this stuff.

dont mean to flame, just don't hate on ALL of us

Maybe I gave the wrong impression. I do not hate all Radio Shack employees. It simply was this one guy. He seemed clueless as to what he was talking about. I guess you would have had to be there to see him, but you would agree, hands down. Like I said on my original post, I went to another Radio Shack and got some better help. Not hating on all radio shacks, just that one particular employee.

I have learned that when I need to get parts quick and Radio Shack is the only place that's open, I have to go in there knowing exactly what I need and find it myself. I mean no disrespect toward Radio Shack employees, they know their stuff about cell phones and DVD players and the like, parts just don't seem to be a priority.

and that's true for 98% of all radio crack employees. i try to be the other way and not pile on more crap to a customer when all they want is a simple switch, even though we don't have the ones most racers want. just ask SmoothMax

Funny you should mention it, I work part time at radio shack too, and the radioshacksucks.com site is god's gift to the radio shack employee. if you read the message boards about 90% of the people there are employees or former employees.

As for the other guys, I'd also say about 90% of the radio shack employees are a buncha sales people who don't know crap about parts. Radio Shack's main focus is to sell cellular phones, but now that has shifted towards parts, batteries and accesories although most people dont know crap about the stuff (hey, we're RS employees, not engineers. If we were engineers, we sure as hell wouldnt be workin at RS).

Radio shack is also a bad place to purchase hook up wire, like the 16 gauge flexible stuff most of us car enthusiasts use. It is better to go to pep boys/ autozone etc to buy that. Not to mention RS's prices are expensive as *****.
