Severe oil leak!

Hello everyone!

I have a 1996 Nissan Maxima that I'm pretty much driving until it dies and I'm at the point the other day it stopped running for which I learned it was out of oil. I knew it had a small leak from the rear seal, but never leaked enough to cause any issues between oil changes. There is now a large leak coming from the front of the engine and can't quite figure out where from. Here's a video of the leak, any idea? Here's another to show the volume shortly after arriving home.

Thanks!

Chris

If you are car stopped running due to no oil in the engine, you are looking at internal engine damage, possibly having to replace the engine altogether. Since it is still running, you are pretty lucky that it did not seize up, but I would still guess it has some damage internally. The volume of oil on the ground doesn't look to be too bad unless it was for a short period of time.

If you are trying to find the leak, I would start with some Simple Green/degreaser and wash that area down completely. Once nice and clean, fill the oil if needed and start it up. Get a good flash light and check for leaks.

Honest Answer, That is somewhat normal for a 4th. There is not much up front on the engine. I agree with the above mentioned It needs to be cleaned to really Identify a leak.Remove the A/c Bracket further and you'll be able to see the front lower half. The galley ports from the lower oil pan to the block are on the (rear) back side of the engine. Unless its pouring or you want to do a Complete reseal.. Keep oil in the trunk and keep it pushin..

dripping droplets, greenish color and rate it is spreading on floor, it looks like your coolant is leaking. Failed water pump? Did you check coolant level in radiator?

Like Saig said, that fluid dripping down isn't oil, its most definitely coolant. I'm 90% sure its your water pump that's leaking.

Yeah that looks like coolant, possibly water pump seal is no good. Also check the freezer plugs theres on located right above the compressor area.
