Some people have taken the VQ engines past the 300k mi mark with proper care, so anything's possible.
Btw, If I were you and I planned on keeping the car for 20k mi or more, I'd just suck it up & buy new struts/shocks.
Unless the used struts/shocks are visibly leaking at the seals, there's really no way to verify their condition or road-worthiness until you get them installed on your car & then it's too late. So, if you do go that route, don't pay too much for them.

I have 3 used struts off my maxima (36k). I put kyb agx on mine. I hit a pothole with the passenger side and blew the front one but the others seem ok. I would think the 2 rear ones are in pretty good condition, front left I cant tell. give me 25 bucks and u can have them if u want them.

Thanks for the information.

I would avoid the OEM struts if you decide to buy new. They're just too much $ for what you're getting. It's basically just a Tokico strut. If you want a great durable strut shock, but don't want to pay an arm & a leg, look into the KYB GR2's. Many, many people have used these and I've never read any complaints.

Actually there was some recently in the general forum. I think it may have been Dave B. But he was lowered kinda far on coilovers etc. I think if you stay stock height or dont lower that much with them you should be fine.
