Hopefully they'll put some damn RWD domestic V8s (more than just the 2 that were in the first one) in the next movie so that they can more accurately depict the street racing scene.
Sure there are ricers and imports at all the street racing hangouts around here... but there are just as many domestics, and 9 times out of 10 the domestics are wiping the floor with the imports- I think it's time for some equal representation. The cars that the movie featured (the supra, eclipse, s2000 etc) were supposedly heavily modded to be very fast cars, which gets my respect no matter what kind of car it is... but what it did was spurred even more morons who take their 15, 16, 17, hell, 20 second econobox - strap on catback exhaust and CAI and think they are a hardcore street racing badass.

And as was pointed out- I guess the cop cars are V8 RWD american made cars as well (they ususally have a 4.0 or 5.0 V8)
I'd like to see the next movie have more equal representation. At least a couple of the main character's cars needs to be something like a heavily modded late model SS Camaro, WS6 T/A, Cobra Mustang, Saleen Mustang(
), 5th gen Corvette, Dodge Viper, etc...

It would be nice to have a Maxima that was actually fast, though.
I though the title of the movie was the Fast and the Furious, not Slower than Stock and Furious.
[plug]Something that balances speed and good looks like Y2KevSE's 5th gen would be just about right.[/plug]

I think they should have one from each gen, for 5th gen I pick Y2KevSE (KEEEEEVIIIIN) hands down! His car is DIZOPE, when I heard his SC and that SWEEET SWEET grumble from the back I almost peed my pants. They should ship his car on an airfreighter...yes....
From 4th....hrm...very hard to decide, speed or looks? I would pick Shadow to be the representative, sweet car, swett paint job, sweet interior. He might not be the fastest....but thats the point of "movie magic"
Did you really think all those races in the movie were actually "fast"?? and I quote "This is my first time driving a car...We were'nt allowed to go faster than 80 miles per hour." - The chick whith the 240, in the making-of video.
But for 4thgen speed...hmm...DON IN TEXASSSSS!

Where do you get your information about where the movie is going to be filmed? Also its not good that it will be filmed in NYC because it is going to bring too much attention to racing in NYC. Cops will be out looking for us like crazy.

I certainly don't know where you are from.. but you need to get out of hick town.

Ya know, I'm not even going to waste my time on this gem of a comment. You sound like the typical rice boy- and I know words of wisdom go in one ear and out the other with you guys. I'm sure LA is full of badass front wheel drive 95 ft-lb or torque civics with 5 inch fart tips and gigantic rear wings for optimal non-drive-wheel downforce, whose owners have wet dreams every other night about hanging with real sports cars. I'm sure that it's just here in this million+ population "hick town" of Memphis, TN that the domestics are the ones kicking *** on the drag strip. I'm sure that it's just hear in Memphis that 19 out of 20 hondas with "type R" and "NOS" badges have just that, badges as nothing more.
Sounds to me like I disrupted your fantasies- get your panties out of that nasty little wad they're in and come join the rest of the world in this place also known as reality.

See the difference is, a new '02 Z28 6-speed starts off as let's say a low 13 second car, he gets his flowmaster muffler and now he's become an even lower 13 second car, and his car sounds damn good too. Mr. Honda Civic driver over here takes his 16 second car and gets a flowmaster muffler... he's still got a 16 second car. The difference is 3 seconds of ET.... so now the civic driver has to put some freaking gigantic turbocharger and shot of nitrous on his ride, and he's still (at best) equal in speed to the Z28, and has lost his one advantage over the camaro (reliability) because he's going to have to rebuild his $hit within 5k miles. And to top it off his car sounds like a ****ed off weedwhacker having sex with a bumble bee.

that is the funniest post i've ever read..i agree that for the most part stock domestic sports cars are faster than stock import econoboxes, but there are some sick 7 second hondas out there too
Sorry to burst your bubble guys but...
F&F2 will be filmed in Miami Florida.
There writing two scripts, one with Diesel in and one without. And there is not just gonna be cars, but planes, helicoptors and boats also. Ja-rule is the first to be signed on.

Cool.
Maybe with all the extras, they could get some characters who
have decent acting skill... unlike pretty much all of the folks on the first movie.

who watched the DVD?
The inspiration for the movie came from a story written about the illegal street racing scene in (what I can recall) NYC. It would do justice to the idea if it was to return there, but It sounds like FL will be the hot spot.
The biggest reason that imports were so heavily favored in the film was grown on the passion that "kids" with hand-me-down grocery getters could engineer their cars with NASA-like precision and knowlege to become speed machines. Emphasis was placed on an inexpenssive car to start with. Something that was basically worthless, then turned into something that was not only beautiful (which is in the eye of the beholder) but also more performance based than the car was originally designed for.
Many of the domestics that we talk about (Sangs, z28's, etc...) are all "speed" cars to start with. Their names are, for the most part, indicative of "performance". The director was getting at the idea (in his comentary of the film) that the opposite of these cars, "economy" cars if you will, where the amazing part of the underground racing scene. Be it a Civic, or a Focus (imports/domestic) it doesn't matter where the car company is based, but the obscure thought of harnesses the power of something that is concidered the antithesis of power is that which he felt most inspired by.
just my take on the whole thing

Also- if that movie considered Supras, Eclipses, S2000s, etc as (quoting you) "grocery getter, inexpensive, worthless, hand-me-down" machines, then it sure as hell could have considered a Z28 or stang to be the same thing.
I just checked the IMDB (Internet Movie Database, www.imdb.com), for anything relating to Fast and The Furious II and couldn't find anything substantial out.
Some interesting things, though: the director, Rob Cohen, is working on something called XXX with Vin Diesel and Samuel L Jackson, but it doesn't appear to have anyting to do with cars. And as for the speculation about it being filmed in Miami, Rob Cohen was one of the directors on Miami Vice, so it would make sense. ( I grew up in Miami in the 80's and can remember watching them film chase scenes on Rickenbacker Causeway for Miami Vice.)

The Supra and S2000 were in a class of their own, but the Eclipse is a cheap sports car. It's a middle-age man's economic choice for a sports car. The whole concept was about starting with not too much and getting alot from it. The Supra was a junk pile before they rebuilt it. The S2000 was the car of a rich kid, not to mention one of the highest liter/HP ratios of most cars on the road. But, then of course there was the rx-7.
You're right, they could have done the same with plenty of domestics too, probably, but then It may have just been another Steve McQueen movie or "Gone in 60 seconds" look-a-like film. I remmeber reading somewhere that he was looking for and more current version of "American Grafity".
