Rear Spoiler brake light

Well….after 26 years of faithful service the rear spoiler brake light has gone out. Since my ADD won’t allow me to drive the car with the light burned out I now need to find a replacement. Can anyone direct me to a new rear spoiler light for my 95 Maxima?

The only one that fits the stock spoiler directly is the original. Aftermarket ones are not a direct fit and will require some new holes or double sided tape.

I have repaired a few originals where a component or 2 has corroded (or self destructed). It's not fun to open the light but it has always been a cheap and simple fix replacing the blown resistor or diode.

There are a few OEM used on ebay for $60, such as https://www.ebay.com/itm/38443000950...oAAOSwkLZhXKJN

You'll need the right tool to remove the 3 phillips screws. That in itself can be a chore.

I bought the universal one that requires double-sided tape and let me tell you I've had it on here almost 8 years there's nothing wrong with it and yes it really is a direct fit minus the double-sided tape. I will try to see if I remember the company's name and post it in the next few posts

Just use double sided tape and plug the factory mounting holes and continue your drive

Thanks for the info guys. One last question…do I have to remove the spoiler completely to change the brake light or can I somehow thread the wire thru the trunk lid somehow?

Just remove the 3 screws holding the light on. There is a connector on the back of the light.

My spoiler is sort of falling off is there a guide for replacement or repair? I swear I looked online and found nothing helpful

I just used some white Gorilla Tape on my Arctic Pearl White ride to conceal the fact that there is a light there, because there is already a 3rd brake light in the rear windshield, and I don't want to waste money on another stupid gizmo. Maybe other people could just paint over theirs. Personally, I hate LED lights anywhere except maybe very hard to access spots.

That's fine on a GXE or GLE when a spoiler has been added and the interior light was not deleted. An SE does not have the 3rd brake light in the window.

Here’s one …

Brand new OE.

No double-sided tape or drilling needed.

Ahh, I see. That would indeed make the spoiler brake light necessary.

I just made a RockAuto order for a 10-pack of 1157 brake light bulbs (to go along with the 10-pack of 1156 bulbs I already bought to get my 3rd light working again), as well as headlight bulbs. Cost: $33cad shipped - not bad!

This order was just a preemptive thing, because it really bugs me seeing other people driving around with one burnt out headlight
I wasn't confident about the bulb brand choice, so I hedged my bets by only getting 3 Phillips econo. Come to think of it, I probably could have ordered other brands without significantly bumping up shipping cost - oops I avoided claims of "extra bright!" and "whiter!". I'll have to see how these ones work out.

So...I pulled several of these from the junkyard and all of them have the same problem. On the voltage lines there is a component on the LED side of the circuit board that has corroded/imploded/disintegrated. I need to know what that component is. I have jumped straight across it with an alligator clip basically making it a hardwire, and the light works, but I have the feeling it might be a resistor or zener diode that protects the rest of the circuit from overvoltage.

I have two of these so I can just try it and see how long it lasts, but it's kind of a pain to get in and out of there, and once I superglue the whole thing back together, I'm done with it.

Do any of you guys know what that component is?

It's in a 95 Maxima with spoiler...

I wish I could tell you what that component was. I just guessed and stuck something in there. You could measure the voltage or trace the board and do some math. Alternatively, replace the LED strip with a new one. Those adhesive backed cut to length led strips would be a great substitute.
