Radiator Cooling Fan

Hello - I am trying to help my grandson on his 1998 Maxima GLE. He got it used from another kid and the other kid messed with the radiator cooling fans. He installed a Dorman replacement dual fan and for some reason, the electrical connectors have been clipped off and the fans are straight wired. Fan #1 seems to be working, but Fan #2 is not. The fuse keeps blowing. Today I tried using a jumper wire at the fuse and #2 would not turn on at all and fan motor started smoking. It spins freely by hand, so it has not seized. Now I am thinking the 4-wires for #2 are crossed. Anyone know which of the 4-wires on the Dorman fan go to each of the 4 factory wires? Thanks for your help.

Ya know when you register, you can populate your member fields like LOCATION

This guy is a member here and has a working OEM assembly in a running car for sale, if the Dorman is broken. He'd probably harvest the connecting plug and wire as well!

Thanks. I appreciate the response. We live in Oklahoma, but you have given me a good idea. I'll check around the junk yards for a donor.

Don’t know about you, but $77.00 for a brand new assembly sounds fairly cheap to me.

Thanks. I have seen new fans, but I am really wanting to make sure the wiring is right because there are no connecting clips.

Interesting Update!

So, yesterday I saw something different. I had Fan#2 fuse pulled out (it was blown, and keeps blowing). Left Fan#1 fuse in because it seemed to be working. Drove the car about 8 miles in the ECON setting (no a/c) and when I pulled over, Fan#1 fuse had blown. With the car running, I pulled Fan#1 30a blown fuse out, and plug in an extra one I had in my pocket, and both Fan#1 and Fan#2 came on. What the heck. This would tell me the fan motors are working and the wiring is correct. Now I am wondering if the relays are bad. What do you think?

Have you taken apart the spliced wiring to see if the connections are crimped correctly and aren't touching each other? I wonder what would happen if the polarity were reversed.

Checked Connections.

I did check the connections and redid them all with heat shrink connectors. No indication any were touching.
Today I ordered three new relays. Still troubleshooting.
