98 Maxima starts fine when cold...terrible when hot?
Hello. My 98 has been having this issue for around 6 months and has become worse affecting driveability now. At the first start on the morning it starts quickly. After getting to operating temps if you stop somewhere like the store and try to restart it cranks around 6 seconds and fill finally start then stumbles a little and then idles OK. I replaced plugs and fuel filter and new coil packs and problem persists. I tried a spare MAF and camshaft position sensor and problem still the same. No Check Engine light. Also when it's warm if I turn it off and restart within 10 seconds it starts fine..and if I continue this is starts fine every time. If I let it sit around 20 seconds the long crank to start begins. I'm thinking fuel pressure regulator or? Thank you in advance.
Regardless of the presence of a check engine light, I’d recommend connecting a scan-tool. Any stored DTCs?
Also, adjustment or replacement of your TPS seems in order as does replacement of your IAT sensor.
All are quite inexpensive steps towards dulling the edge on Occums Razor.

Make sure your coolant temp sensor is plugged in/no broken wires and you can Ohm test the sensor with a DVOM as well to make sure it's good, bought my '88 KingCab years ago dirt cheap for a fine cold start/hard warm start issue and the coolant temp sensor connector was busted off, new connector fixed it
More than likely, your ECTS (Engine Coolant Temperature Sensor) has failed, or is failing. As stated, start there and test it. Report back your findings.
Testing procedure is in the FSM (Factory Service Manual).

Sorry about the side-track, but .... that FSM link: Are there any people who still prefer paper-based FSM for their vehicles?
(It seems that not all pdf files are indexed to return results to the "Find" command. But being able to use Find on a pdf document is such a slick short-cut trick.)

to The Wizard: Thanks for the prompt replies.
On the paper-based FSM, I am old school as well. I already HAVE the 3+ inch thick FSM, and re-discovered it when clearing out an old book case. I can't bring myself to put it in the trash if there is someone who would appreciate having it.
Can you give me any suggestions as to how I could find someone who would appreciate having a FSM for 1996 Maxima for the cost of USPS Priority Mail postage?
regards
