thunking noise when turning steering wheel / rotating coil spring

I recently installed some struts I purchased from an orger way back in the day...they have KYB struts. I've included a picture of the passenger's side below (next to the Monroe Quickstruts that were being replaced) as well as a picture post-install:

All seemed OK after installation for a short time, and the ride quality seemed fine. However, I soon began to notice a "thunking" noise when turning the steering wheel. The noise is due to the passenger's side coil spring ROTATING ABOUT IT'S AXIS AS THE WHEEL CHANGES DIRECTION. Each thump (four thumps total lock-to-lock) is a separate movement of the top-most spring coil against the top-plate. I've included a link to a video of the spring moving:

I didn't check the torque of the center strut nut before install (that was probably stupid) BUT when I checked just now, it was a perfect 60ft-lbs.

Question: what the actual hell ? Why is the coil spring moving like that ?

Thanks -

The strut bearing is bad or needs lube.
