Do I need this servicing???

The Nissan dealership that I take my car to for servicing has recommneded the following servicing...is it really necessary at 55,000 miles? I don't know if they are trying to rip me off...they suggest that I need an Oil Flush ($90), Brake Flush ($90), Transmission Flush ($140) and Motorvac ($150). These are all items that are not part of the normally scheduled servicing... Any guidance is appreciated! Thanks!

Susan - The brake and transmission flush are part of the 60,000 mile service. The oil flush and Motorvac (not sure what this is?) are not though. It's not a bad idea to get an oil flush, but it's not completely necessary either. It all depends on how much you want to invest in preventative maintainence. I would suggest waiting for the 60,000 mile service (or just having the service done now) because you get a much better deal when you buy the whole package. If you do these things separately you'll end up paying more. Chad

60K Service is the following:
Change spark plugs
Oil/filter change
Transmission fluid drain and refill
Air filter change
Coolant drain and refill
Inspect various components such as brakes, cooling system, suspension, etc.

This is all you need. Don't let them talk you into unnecessary repairs/maintainance. Always refer to your owner's manual. This is were I got this info.

No, none of those services are necessary. The transmission flush is recommended at 60k though, and the brake fluid flush should be done whenever you change your brake pads. Don't waste your money on a 60k brake flush, just wait until your brakes need service (i.e. pads wear down).

I would do exactly what the 60K service calls for. If you are not planning on keeping your car for more than 150K then don't do anything that the owners man. does not tell you to do. The maxima has proven itself to be a very reliable car so anything extra is pointless.
