Automatic tranny
Automatic tranny
Is it normal for my engine to rev up to about 3000 RPM before my tranny shifts into gear. I mean I floor it and the engine revs way up and then I start to accelerate. Is this just a case of the automagic?

Yea man, that is the cause with all auto maxima's. Nothin to worry about ('cept that you would be alot faster and instant response if you had a manual tranny)

No this is not normal. My auto tranny gets to just past 1500 rpms and then catches and jerks the car forward.
3000 seems really hi to me. I think your tranny is slipping. Check the fluid level. When was the last time it was changed? It should be changed at least every 30,000 miles. ( thanks bill99gxe for that one )
Automatic
Well it isn't like a ruff jerk. It may be that the fluid needs changing. I'll try that and see. I seen in previous post how to change the fluid. Is it alright to mix fluids because I don't know what type is in it now.

haha that is not case of automagic it is a case of your tranny is screwed...dont worry i went through this phase and learned that a maxima tranny is not an easy thing to fix nor is it by any means of the word cheap...keep on revving your car or driving it hard and it will die on you...there is no sense of trying to save it because it is already gone...expect to pay around 1400 to 2300 for a rebuild...or you can do what i did and buy a 5 spd
Now you all have me worried. I just got my tranny checked and I only have 27k miles and it revs up to 5k rpm sometimes only if I'm already going say 40 mph and floor it. I thought this was because the tranny wasn't sure whether or not to downshift or not and hesitated. If i'm starting off the line or going a slow speed it goes right away.

You're still under warranty. Get it checked out by the Nissan dealer and if your tranny is fu$%ed, they will replace it. You better do it soon or your warranty will run out.

Silver Lining
I think your tranny is slipping. Mine did the same thing only in reverse. Sometime it would rev much higher to get going. Then it started leaking....Bad. Replacing a tranny can be real expensive too. I had quotes in excess of 2800 for a rebuilt. Ouch!Luckily I found a low miles wrecked I 30 with a LSD. Still was expensive but know both tires rip rubber.
