Hey, this guy I work w/ was telling me today that the 4th Gen. Max's stock would take a 5th Gen stock w/ 222hp. Well, tell me what you all think. I wanna know. Peace

 

He is right. They have more HP but use the torque differently. It works in our advantage. Also they are heavier than us also helping us out.

The 5th Gen's are highway beasts. Their extra power comes from the variable intake manifold that lets them maintain power all the way up to redline. On a flat-out highway race they'd probably beat a 4th gen. But the 5th gen's don't have enough extra torque to make up for all of their extra weight (200 lb), so that makes them slower at real-world speeds. Also, the stock 16" rims of the 4th gens give the car a lighter unsprung weight vs. the 17" rims of the 5th gens and that also helps out the 4th gens a bit. I think all of these reasons combined is also why it's much easier to get a 4th gen into the 14's than the 5th gen's.

The 4th gen automatic has a good chance of taking the 5th gen auto because the power of the 5th gen is closer to the red line than the 4th gen. If the 5th gen owner know's how to manually shift the auto and get to the power (6400 rpm's), they should win.
Now the five speeds all depend on what gear/speed you're in. Under 5500 rpm's, the 4th gen should win, but anything after that I'd bet on the fifth gen because they are getting into the meat of their powerband and the 4th gens and beginning to lose power. just compare the dyno's for both cars and you'll see what I mean.

I have driven a number of 5th gens and FEEL that they are quicker off the mark. I have never raced one, but I would think a 5th gen would win against mine ... but not for long! Hehehe PPSSSSSSSSSSSHT!

5th gen autos cant redline, they stop at like 5200RPMS ? We redline, all the way up to 6600RPMS. We are lighter, and have more HP in that respect.

5th Gen manuals got clocked at 7sec 0-60 by R&T The '95 SE 5spd, 6.6.

4th generation, the BEST generation

 

Auto for auto (2k-2k1) 4th gen from a roll all the way up whatever speed I have both a 2k2auto and a 97 and I am not biased to either. sticks depends on the driver.
