Rear Hub Assembly problems, and help please

Allready posted in the general forum hope the moderators don't shot me for posting this twice Has anyone had problems with these before? I jacked up my car and was looking for a poping noise I heard this morning, and when I went to put the back wheels back on I noticed that once you tighten the lugs, the wheel and rotor tilt in and out, so I took the wheel and the rotor off, and the hub assembly seemed loose, I tried to tighten it but it was tight, my girlfriends dad said it might be the bearings in there, but nissan said all they sell is the hub assembly itself, which is 96 bucks per side, both sides seem to have the same problem and I guess it started a week or two ago, I had a lot of road noise I thought it was the tires but it got worse, any help would be great

thanks in advance

oh and if any of you guys has an idea of what to do, but needs a little more info please ask me thanks

GTR,

I just had my rear hub assemblies off the car last weekend to install longer wheel studs (to accomodate my H&R spacers). If you've torqued down the 30mm axle bolts to around 95 ft./lbs. & you're still noticing "play" in the hub assembly, then your bearings are probably bad. The bearing is the only moving part separating the hub assembly from the axle, so that's gotta be it.

Kinda odd for both of them to fail around the same time, but stranger things have happened, I guess.

I know it sux, but you should try to deal w/ this ASAP - a bearing seizure could do irreparable damage to your axle shaft - then, it gets reeeeally expensive.

I've had limited luck dealing w/ my local Nissan parts counter. Maybe you have too - They never seem to go out of their way to try to help & seem to have a special brand of hostility reserved for do-it-your-selfers, which I don't quite understand.

Try Courtesy Nissan (www.courtesyparts.com) -see if they sell the bearings separately. They were super helpful to me when I had to get some suspension stuff a while back.

If I were you, I would pull the hub assemblies again and get a thin coat of waterproof grease on the axle shaft (if you haven't already) & seal it back up, just as a precaution. This will provide some measure of protection (while you decide what u need 2 do) if one of the bearings seizes.

Maybe someone else can comment on whether the bearings can be removed & replaced or if he's really stuck replacing the whole hub assy???

Yea I got one of them today, and replaced it but the other one is in ATL, I was going to go down there, and the parts guy I talked to was super nice, he cut me 10% off for the trouble of me driving that far, then I called him back and told him I couldn't make the drive, so I asked if he could send it next day air on monday, he said he could and that he would take care of the shipping for me too so I was really impressed with that, even though the local dealer here told me the wrong part number to begin with and then finaly got that right, but from the looks of the drivers side one, these have been bad for a while, it's because I am stupid, I took the dust covers off, because my center caps wouldn't fit, then never put the caps on and sprayed water in there while washing the car so it ruined them,, as long as I put the caps on I shouldn't have a problem anymore, just my dumba$$ that caused this one I think

DOH~! That would do it. That cover is p-u-r-d-y important, as you learned the hard way. I wonder if maybe you could use a hammer to carefully re-shape the middle of the dust caps a little, so the wheels clear them?

If I recall correctly, there seems to be a fair amount of extra space between the end of the axle-nut/axle and the inside surface of the dust cap. With the dust caps installed on the car, you might try to flatten out the convex shape by doing a little strategic metal-shaping. (Tools: hammer, punch)

Good luck!

Well I replaced the left side, and found my hub rings that came with the rims, put those and the centercaps on and seems to be the same as haveing the dust cover on there so I hope that works

I had to do it the hard way in the front to make the centercaps fit, had to use a hacksaw to make them fit
