97 gle wheels coating

When I got into an accident, I had to get a new wheel for my 97 gle. My other 3 look wheels look better than the new one. Seems like they are more metallic and shinier. I think I remember hearing something about some wheels having a metallic coating put on them. Is this true and is there anyway I can do it myself?

They are machined, then powdercoated clear. The only way you can do it yourself is if you have a CNC machine and a powdercoat gun....they probably sent you the wrong wheel or the bodyshop got it from a salvage yard to keep costs down. Also, 95-96 SE wheels are the same size and design as the 97-99 GLE wheels.

Try Griot's Garage...they sell a clear coat finish from Germany that might work well. It supposedly is identical to that used to finish wheels on Mercedes, etc. I think the sight is griots.com.
