HELP! What causes ECU 0701 Multiple Cylinder Misfire???

I started my car up this morning and everything was fine until I had to punch it a bit to get across a stop sign at a 4 lane street...

It felt like the transmission was slipping as I accellerated across the lanes, but when I got to the next stop sign I noticed that the car was definitely running rough and my Service Engine Soon light was on.

It ran rough all the way to work (10 miles), I've let it sit for a couple of hours and it still runs rough.

The ECU diagnostic code I pulled was 0701, which translates into a multiple cylinder misfire. I changed plugs 2 weeks ago and have driven 500 miles since then, anybody hazard a guess as to what could be going on here?

HELP!!

Thanks, bill99gxe! I saw that thread when I did a search, but it doesn't seem to apply to my problem. Car was running fine, THEN had problems, no problems starting. And, 0701 is the ONLY code that came up! I'm going to reset the ECU at my next break and drive around the office building once or twice. It is still missing on at least one cylinder, maybe by resetting I can isolate which cyl. is the problem?

80,000 miles with absolutely NO problems and all of a sudden...this.

OK, I reset the ECU and drove around the block a couple of times.
The engine ran rough but didn't throw a code until I hit about 3000 rpm; When I got back I pulled the code and found:

0608: Cylinder 1 misfire. No more multiple cylinder misfire, just this one (for now at least).

Any further ideas, anyone?

These search results for "0608" may help. Pay particular attention to the posts by Daniel B. Martin:

I'm suspecting a sensor, but am a true idiot when it comes to diagnosing problems at this level.

Problme solved

The only true idiot here would be me....when I finally isolated it to the #1 cylinder I did a quick look-see, and sure enough the connector for the #1 coil pack had come loose. I just didn't push it on hard enough during the plug change and it wiggled its way loose.

Interestingly, doing searches to help me solve this problem brought up the same phrase several times: somehting along the lines of "I just changed my plugs so I KNOW it can't be that!". Well, in my case, it wasn't the plugs so much as my shoddy workmanship! I do a lot of troubleshooting at work, and the first thing I look for is what has changed most recently (unless of couse I changed it, then it can't be wrong. Right? wrong!)

Thanks

That's great to hear. I'm glad it was something simple instead of complex and expensive.
