ECU adapting to Y-pipe

Hey. I am going to run an AutoX April 13th. I am planning on ordering a WSP SS Y-pipe next month. I am planning on installing it like March 29th (whatever Good Friday is because I have that day off from work). Will my ECU be used to the new Y-pipe by the 13th of April? Or will it stunt my power a little til then? Or what? Thanks

The most overwhelming determining factor in auto-x is the driver. A good driver in a Pinto could kick butt. So don't worry about it. But FYI, it probably takes a few days of good driving to get the ecu to relearn the car.

Thanks Jeff. I liked the illustration of the Pinto too. Actually, I ran an AutoX last year before I had any suspension mods. I was even on Kelly Charger tires. Anyway, they weren't pintos but miatas were kicking my butt. But this year I'll be running it with KYB AGX's, H&R springs, FSTB, and RSB. I can't wait. The difference should be ENORMOUS.

No problem. The reason Miatas do so well is that they are small and light. Most any car that have those traits will do well(even the Pinto ) Actually the Pinto would not be too bad. $200 Pinto w/ the SVO 4 cylinder turbo engine and vroom(but one ugly vroom!)

So yeah, your car will be alot better but no matter what, you can't make the maxima as small or as light as a Miata/510/Mr2/914-6/ etc..

But hey, auto-x is about improving your own performance and having fun!

Just dotn get hit in one. Weren't they prone to catching fire in accidents?

WSP y-pipe

amb4081 I saw your post. My advice would be to order your pipe ASAP as we are working like crazy to keep up with the demand, and prototype new products, etc. Some guys order y-pipes and think that just because we were able to send some out in say 48 hours , that we can always do it.That is not the norm. We try to keep ahead ordering flanges and flex sections, gaskets. But sometimes parts don't get shipped to us like we were promised, so there is a delay.. Be safe, give yourself and us a time cushion so you arn't disapointed.

Actually, yes, if hit hard enough in the rear. They had a problem with the gasoline tank rupturing in an accident and igniting. Pinto hit in rear = spill spill BOOM.

Get your y as soon as possible and install it. Reset the ecu and you should feel it within 100 miles or so. I did that and it worked out great. I tried just letting the ecu relearn over existing information and it was taking quite some time. By reseting the ecu it starts the learning process over and is more effective.

I think if you hit any car hard enough, it would spill gas

i'm not sure but after i put in my intake, ive been using gas so much more- not jus because i gas it hard all the time. i know itll use more fuel because theres more air but - if you drive hard after resetting the ecu will that be bad for fuel economy?
after how long with the battery disconnected does the ecu reset- off the top of your head, i wont search , its an easy question

Well...I talked to Dallas last night and placed my order for your SS TIG Y-pipe. I was told it would ship at the earliest in a week and a half. That's cool with me. I'm happy because in a month or so, I'll have an extra 15hp (hopefully). WOO HOO!!!
