I don't really care what you get but don't double post your questions. I deleted the gen forum one already.

Plus a Max isnt in evry group of cars you see. You see Accords and Camrys everywhere I see at least 1 of each in every group of cars I am at at a stop light. A 95 Max auto or 5spd will own any stock 95 Accord 4cy or V6!

A stock 95 Maxima (auto/manual) will own a 2002 Accord V6 (coupe/4door). What does this tell you?

Accord V6 owners fear Maxima's

95-97 Accord V6's are weak as hell. 2.7L non-VTEC V6, 170HP.

98-02 Accord V6's are much better. 3.0L VTEC V6, 200HP. They're pretty close in performance to a 4th Gen Maxima auto but the Maxima will still win.

Checkout www.accordv6.com for more info on Accord V6's.

I say get a Maxima though!

Stock vs. stock the Accord wins in handling IMHO. I used ot have a 1990 5 speed coupe that I loved, but it was SLOOOOOOW. The Maxima is the perfect car for the money. It gives a nice balance of ride quality, speed, handling and it gives you a substantial trunk and interior space (including headroom). Like everyone else said, you're on a Maxima forum, so I'll give you the defacto answer: Maxima

plus, what are all the reactions when you say what kinda car you got? what would you rather tell them? "oh i got a honda accord" and then you might as well say, "just like everyone else. now i'm gonna RICE the hell out of it. just like everyone else. i'm gonna put a big ol' muffler on it, and then i'm gonna think it's fast as hell!! just like everyone else." when i tell people i got a max, the girls give me that "special eyebrow + stare" and the guys always give me a hell yea! unless of course they already drive a wee-tec. trust us, you have a very welcome family here, all the information you would ever need, and some that you don't, plus, hooked up max's are so unique. don't be a ricer-oni. be a maximatic.

just say f*** no to wee-tec

Don't be stuck on the VTEC. They're getting rid of it soon anyway. Have you driven one? It's still a 4 cyllinder. Remember, a 4 VTEC in a Civic is a lot different than a 4 VTEC in an accord. The V6's are good but don't bother comparing to the Max.

I had the same dilemma 5 years ago, look where I went...

Go with a 4th gen Maxima Se. They look better and also out perform the accord. A Maxima going up against a V6 accord, Maxima will work the Honda every time. Even if its a Auto max Vs. a Stick Accord,, every time the MAXIMA. Go with the NISSAN!

Let's see... 5 speed Accords only come in a 4 cylinder. Should this be any surprise?

I had a 2000 Accord coupe 5 speed prior to my Maxima. It was a great car, and beat the Maxima in many respects. They both have their strong suits. Go drive both and decide for yourself.

Yeah, jargoone is correct; try both out and see. Just note, the all new 7th gen Accord is coming out this Fall.

Currently, the 6th gen Accord has nothing for the Maxima in terms of performance. (Unfortunately, Acura's TL doesn't share the same motor with the Accord, unlike the I35 and Maxima.) The Accord needs forced induction (or some heavy internal engine mods) in order to run with the Max (see L.I.Accord on Superhonda online; he's got a seriously boosting V6 Accord).

Get the Maxima, get the 5spd. I guarantee you won't have any troubles with any Accords.

Ok, these are what I currently drive, 96 Accord Coupe and 97 Expedition Eddie Bauer.

This is what I just bought..... 99 Maxima SE

I have also owned a 96 Maxima SE, which I sold and bought a 99 Accord Ex 4dr I4 5spd, thinking it would be fairly quick. It wasn't. To be fair I also had an Integra GSR 4dr at the same time, but that too was not as fast straight line as My Maxima, and harder to drive fast.

My opinion, get the Max and surprise every Honda driver out there. you may not beat a 95 Accord with an H22A swap, you will make the driver wonder why his $4000 engine job just barely beat a stock Max....

accords, ha

I am from wisconsin, nobody really drives maximas up there. Whenever i would say, I just bought a maxima, it wouldn't matter their age, they all would say the same thing "oh, those are nice cars".

Same thing when i came down here to school in Arizona, half of the parking lot is full of hondas. Everyone says "those are nice cars".

Not a single person has ever said, oh, i don't like those, buy a honda man, then'd you be cool.

fst96se, a number of Honda enthusiasts buy the 6th gen I4 5sp for two main reasons: there's an aftermarket for the F-series motor and the I4 has an avail. 5 speed. (The 6th gen coupe I4 5sp has the most performance potential but requires so serious modding to compete.)

Unfortunately, Honda's not into mating their V6 Accords/TLs with manual trannys so it makes the comparison with 5sp Maximas more difficult. (When it comes to the Accord, Honda's too busy focusing on what Toyota's doing with the Camry; which so far isn't much more than window dressing.)

Actually, last I heard, both the new TL-S and the CL-S will be offered in a 6-speed manual transmission either for 2003 model year or late this year. That could be incorrect, but I'm pretty sure I read that in a recent issue of car and driver. I can try to dig it up if you have heard differently.

5 spd is an option on Maximas, never on Accords. There are like 3 Hondas at all available with MTX: NSX, s2000, and RSX.

I have to agree with the masses, I just purchased a 2k2 Accord LX 5-spd to replace my beater that died (95 Sentra). I still have my 98 GXE and there is really not much comparision between the two cars, at 4 yrs old, my Max is still more car than my new Honda and I can pull 2 cars on the Honda at almost any speed. The 4 banger gives great mileage and the handling is a little better than my Max but the Maxima is just more car period. It is larger, more comfortable, much faster, etc....I could go on but you get the idea. The Honda is a great car for basic transportation plus I paid $200 under invoice and got 2.9% apr neither of which Nissan would come close to doing for a 2k2 6-spd, or at least not for me. The 2k2 Max is a great car, but I was expecting a little more after several test drives, its fast and comes nicely equipped but it didn't win me over like I thought it would. I will be trading in my 98 GXE in a year or so and I have narrowed my choices down to the 6th gen Maxima, an Audi A6, or Cadillac CTS, my next sedan will definitely be either AWD or RWD, I am hoping the 6th gen Maxima fits the bill.........

96 Max vs. 95 accord

Dude;

In 1995 I bought a brand new Honda Accord Coupe EX (that I spent a total of $22K on). It looked nice as anything but it was "slow as hell" with a little 4 cyclinder engine (they wanted an extra $1000.00 for a 6 - cyclinder back then and the six cyclinder cars only came in 4 door sedans). The year after my girl bought a used 96 max with 5K miles on it. Most of that time I had always admired my girlfriends max for it's performance, pickup and comfort. Seven years latter and after 98K miles on the max, I OWN IT (the same car) and it drives just as powerful and smooth as when my girl first got it.

Now, I do hear that the 98-2002 Accords are more powerful than the previous Accords, but my money will still be on the one that started it all......

THE MAXIMA!!!!!!!

Actually, 5spd is available for Accords, only on the 4cyl. models though.

don't forget:
- Honda Accord (4 cyl)
- Honda Prelude (there are still some leftovers from 2001!)
- Honda Civic

Big_Ham, I heard/read the same about the CL-S/TL-S getting the 6sp tranny. That should be pretty interesting. Unfortunately, it's unlikely that the Accords will see this powertrain arrangement.

lscottjr, the 98-2002 Accord V6 posts much better performance numbers than the 95-97 Accord V6. Admittedly, its not Maxima performance (though it's closer than you think).

Bottomline: The Maxima is the first car in this class of Asian midsize sedans to incorporate the V6 motor w/5speed (as far as I know) and has a much bigger headstart with developing this setup than Honda. While Nissan focused more on the V6 motor, Honda focused on the I4 motor; the direct result of which is the fact that Honda never had a production car that exceeded 300hp. (oh crap! now sounds like I'm bashing Honda!) The upcoming TL-S/CL-S will be the first non-NSX Honda V6 with a manual tranny. Time will tell how good it really is.
