I need New Tires! What should I get??

Allright. My front tires are wearing out and I have a 98 SE. My friends told me not to get low pro tires on a my 16 inch stock rims and told me to get 17's and get low pros. Do you think I should spend my money on 17's or just stay with my 16s? OR do you think my car would look wack if I lower it with 16s? But the main question is should I get those lowpro wheels on my 16's?

I personally think it will look good if you drop it with the SE rims on there. stay with the stock sized tires and drop it, do a search for Lime's car she has the H&R/Tokico combo on stock SE rims and it looks good. Click HERE

that is a very poor explaination of what you are looking for.

You should only get the correct tire size for whatever size rims you get. If you don't then your speedometer will be off along with your gearing.

You don't explain what you want in terms of all season or performance or winter tires and you don't let us how much you can afford to spend.

Why don't you reply again and this time give us some information to work with and maybe we can help you more.

tires...for 17"

I'm in need of some 225/45/17 tires.
Currently have Nitto NT450 (like them)

In the price range, the tires I came up with are:

Kumho Ecsta Supras
Sumitomo HRZ 2
Nitto NT450

any others? the prices are around $95-120.
any input will be appreciated. thanks!

Go with Dunlop SP 5000s - NOTHING beats them on a Maxima.

bridgestone potenzas are very nice........stay away from nitto and toyo (wear out very fast)....... if your going to keep your 16's use 50 sidewall for the 17's use 45

From my personal experience with Nitto NT450, I would not recommend them.
One of the tires started to develop cracks around the sidewall at 30,000 miles (well at least that's when I found them). Both wet and dry grip is horrible. There is some tread left but I'm too scared to take any chances w/ them.

As theblue pointed out... you really can't get 'low pros' on the existing 16" without making the overall diameter too small and messing up your speedometer. You can get 225/50 cuz they are fairly close and usually cheaper than the 55 profile.

Depends on how much you are willing to spend. 17 X 8 with 235 or 245/45 would fit well on your car and don't cost TOO much.

Your car will look better lowered with stock 16s.
It will look jacked up if you're going with 17 wheels without lowered springs.

Nothing, except the Bridgestone Potenza RE950. These tires own all other high performance all season tires.

Could someone please learn me about buying tires off the internet? I'll admit to only going to brick/mortar stores so I am new to it. Does it cost $$$$ to ship and therefore offset the cost break? Also, who mounts tires without selling them and what do they charge generally? Thanks

You should upgrade to 225/50/16, it will ook good and will attain much improved ride handling. I just bought some falkens 2 weeks ago 235/45/17 and i have nothing but positive things to say about them. Go to www.tirerack.com and you'll be able to view what tires you want, good luck.

NTB usually matches the Tirerack's price + $10 which you would have paid for shipping anyway. I usually just find the lowest price and bring it to NTB and have them order it for me. If you order over the internet, most tire shops will still mount and balance the tires for you as long as they are a reasonable size for the rim, some just might charge you a little extra because you didn't buy from them.

Tire Rack told me that the Dunlop SP5000 outperformed all other tires in it's category in the snow...wouldn't that include the RE950?? I know the Bridgestone is a good tire, I just thought the Dunlop had the edge in the winter.

I just put on a set of four Bridgestone RE950's and they truly are great tires. Traction is amazing in both wet and snowy conditions, but a little more road noise than I'm accustomed to. I'd say if you want a performance tire with great all-season traction, this is your best bet for the money.

Sorry, National Tire and Battery. They used to be NTW but now Sears ownws them. They are a national chain with franchises in most major cities.

Well, it never snows here. So, that's not even a consideration for me.

Re: Re: Re: Re: I need New Tires! What should I get??

I would recommend: www.tirerack.com

I just bought a new set of Bridgestone Turanza H Revos for my 97SE. The local TiresPlus want almost $700!! for them. I got them on TireRack for $400 plus $32 S&H. You can have them drop shipped to your mechanic of choice and have your mechanic install them for whatever they charge to do install and balancing. All told, I ended up spending about 460 as opposed to nearly $700.

The people at tirerack know their stuff to. I was very impressed with theservice and have recommended them to a couple firends.
