My Gas Mileage after SuperCharger install...
O.k., here's the scoop. In doing my homework and asking around to current sc owners before I purchased, the unanamous conclusion was that everyone experienced a decrease in gas mileage. I was bummed but figured, oh well, I still have to get one, right? So, I expected the same decrease in m.p.g. that everyone else told me about (I beleive Kev told me it was around 2 m.p.g.). I installed the charger on about 3/8 of a tank but didn't even bother to try to get the gas mileage from that. (besides, I was driving like a madman anyway - lol). Well, tonight I went through my first full tank of gas. Would you beleive me if I said my trip odometer read 400?! I was on 'E' but my warning light hadn't come on yet. I have never seen 400 on my trip odo.! I used to average mid 300s per tank, high 300s at best. Now 400.
When I filled up tonight, I put in 16 gallons. So:
400.6 miles/ 16.164 gallons = 24.78 m.p.g.
Not too shabby. And that was driving like a 'semi-madman' too. So if I drove like a grandma, it might have been even better. That was on 76 gas and 91 octane (the highest they have here in CA
) F.Y.I. I usually get low 20s and the best I've ever done was 26. So, I am really stoked on 25!
Just thought I'd let you guys know because I know I wish I had that info. before I bought. Thanks for reading.
P.s. O.k., so let's see here, if I used to average say 22 m.p.g. and now I average 25, and I drive 15,000 miles per year and gas is an average of $1.50 per gallon, I get a savings of about $123 per year. So, at that rate, it will only take 27 years for the charger to pay for itself! lol

P.s. Why'd you ditch the SC?
Wow you are really doing well for gas mileage! This is excellent for a super charged VQ! My best mileage (non sc) was 512 miles on one tank, i did not wait for the light to come on though. From my understanding it tends to make the fuel pump work harder and set it up for a burn out. However i still average out very close 450-500 miles using Sunoco ultra 94 and or Texaco premium. I just hit 165,000 miles as of yesterday
! Again that is very good for a sc

With the SC, I'm averaging about 280 a tank. First tank after the SC, I only got ~250 or 16 mpg. That was because I was flooring it every chance I got. Before, I was getting about 340. But with the 19"s, and all the stop and go I do, I guess it's to be expected.
512 miles to 1 tank!
And this was before the light came on?? Man, you're good. Real good. Does the EPA send you xmas cards

do you think switching from regular to premium can cause a decrease simply bc the car has to get used to the different stuff, i would get 19-21 with chevron regular, then i used texaco premium last tank and only got 15.63 i was p****ed, maybe it texaco, maybe the switch, and i usually dont drive that crazy, though its all city, anybody have any idea here?

Re:512 MILES PER TANK!!My highway speeds on average are between 75-85 MPH. I always have used Teaxco system 3 super unleaded, and or Sunoco Ultra 94 fuel. Not to mention a very very strict maintenance regimen that would drive a dealer bonkers! I am now approaching the 166,000 mile mark with feather like acceleration/silk smooth tranny shifts! These cars are truly amazing
Speaking of gas, if you guys want good moderately priced high pressured rubber fuel line (above/below fuel filter REPLACEMENTS) go to autozone, it costs something like $4.50 per a foot. Make sure it is "HIGH PRESSURE LINE" from Goodyear for fuel injected engines. That 99 cents a foot crude will just burst! The F**kin dealer wanted 25.00 plus tax, and they had to order it!

I have to look into this so when I come back I should be going to Atlanta and thats a 615mile drive, that usually cost me $27 one way lets see what will it cost me now. According to Matt who put my 3.25 pulley on he said he got great gas mileage as well when he drove up to New York. check yo email I sent you 3 pics with my CAI, Anyone else want them email me at latin250@hotmail.com

**** The only reason I didn't answer, is because I don't know! I thought maybe someone else could answer. My first guess would be it was a fluke. Try again. Our cars are designed for at least 91. I have never used anything but premium. Try one more time red. Go back to Chevron to keep that consistant, try premium, and then also try to drive as you normally do to keep that consistent. Good luck, let me know. But, I really do recommend premium.
Re: Re: Re: :o)
its cool dude, you werent rude, i just was looking for some sort of answer, i put in my second tank of premium, hopefully it will turn up better, i did think of two occasions in which i burned a little extra gas in traffic, but it still shouldnt have made that big of a difference, ill just have to wait and see next tank

1. Got 'em. Thanks Jaime. Those look pretty good. No offense but your hole is a little sloppy but everything else looks tight.
The reason why it looks sloppy is becuase you have to make it fit
in there also you have to somewhat tuck it in there. I had no paper or instructions to guide myself by.
2. What parts did you use? It is a metal pipe that was black I sanded it down and made it yellow. The rubber piece is a piece of exhaust piping from a boat as well as a the clamp that connects to the blower itself.
3. Are there other colors than yellow? No, does the wheel well plastic cover go back on or do you leave it out? Thanks again.
Yes you have to put your plastic liner back on or you will get water or other debris in the filter.
4. Fix your engine light yet?
The light has not came back yet after 5 times. I have no clue what could it be I checked everything also a couple of members told me it means the car is running fine.

Quick update for those following/interested. Second full tank of gas:
380.2 miles on trip odo.(light just came on a mile before the station!)
Filled up with 16.832 gallons.
380.2/16.832 = 22.6 m.p.g.
Uh, oh. Not the 25 I got the first tank.
However, I feel this is due to one particular day where there was a major accident and I was stuck in bumper to bumper traffic for almost 2 hours (a normal 25 minute drive). Not to mention the starting of AC usage and not to mention a red light after red light after red light race with a black Firebird!
I'll post one more tank after this and then "I'll stop bothering you guys". lol
Oh, the first tank was Unical 76, this tank was Mobile and the tank I have in right now is Exxon (I just fill up where I am).

P.s. Sorry Steve, no 540s yet.

O.k., last time I bug you guys, I promise.
Here's my third tank:
Exxon gas.
91 Octane
Miles on trip odo. = 392.4 (gas light was on since 380 - not consistent)
Gallons filled = 15.594
M.P.G. = 25.16
Nice to have my 25 back.
There you have it. My gas mileage went up with the SC!

got my results today, eased up on it a little, not a whole lot, but more than usual, got 17.33 which is much better than 14.8 last tank, went back to chevron with techron, that texaco stuff is crap, this is all city and im up for an oil change, so i should do even better this tank
Keep tracking your mileage. There is a kind of 'break-in' period when you first get a SC because you do drive the car harder than you normally would, race more often, and show off a little more. 25mpg is probably the lowest you'll get.
I noticed no decrease in mileage and regularly get 400 miles per tank, even during the winter when oxygenated gas is used. I always get between 25-28mpg. This is about the same as I got before I installed the SC and other mods. My driving usually consists of mostly highway driving at speeds around 70-90mph. I've had my SC and exhaust mods on for about 3 years now.
BTW, you should always use premium gas with a SC because a little detonation could ruin your whole day. But you probably already know this...
