5spd conversion & grand prix kill b4 & after.

Yesterday I managed to race my friend, who owns a 99 grand prix (plain, not gtp) auto. When I used to have my automatic 2 months ago we would go racing from time to time. I used to be able to beat him by about 2-3 car lengths by the time we hit 60-70 mph. Right now, I beat him by like 10 car lengths. Its sick. He tells me that once I get into third I just take off. That was on a bad road in a park, where first gear i just plain smoked. The tires spun so bad that my car almost slid into his. Man, I'll never drive an automatic again. He's going to get a cam in hopes of catching up to me. Anyone thing he'll be able to do it? I think that it should give him probably 40 hp or so....bringing him over 200 i think....

A cam alone is not going to give a grand am, much less any stock car 40 horsepower. I mean I guess he could have some rediculously aggresive cam, but then it would idle horribley, lose a lot of low end torque, and be much less desireable as a daily driver. In other words, if he ever wanted to sell the car he'd have to switch in the stock cam because 99% of the people out there would think there was something seriously wrong with the car. Nothing wrong with swapping the cam, I'm just saying there is no such thing as free horsepower, you are going to give up a $hit-load of torque and drivability for a 40 horsepower gain (if it's even possible to gain that much from a cam swap alone on a stock motor).

Nobody makes cams for the N/A 3800 Series II engine....about all there is mod wise for that engine (without S/C) is intake and exhaust.
