Spark Plug Problem....HELP

to make a long story short..i went to change my spark plugs today and changed all of them, but in the process...while pulling out the plug wire. the long plastic piece with rubber on the end, that covers the coil that touches the spark plug. well the rubber came off inside the hole. not sure which plug number it is but looking at the engine it is the back left one.

Anybody ever had this problem???

i tried fixing it..worked for about two hours and now is only running on five cylinders. i am going to call nissan to see if i can just buy that rubber piece with out having to buy the whole sending unit and spark plug cover/wire.

Re: Spark Plug Problem....HELP

the part you broke is the ignition coil. you need to get the whole coil. here are the part numbers and approximate cost:

Hanshin 22448-31U06 53.94
Mitsubishi 22448-31U16 56.52

the one you broke is the #1 cylinder.

hack no i ain't ordering no other coils! shiet....
aite.. all you have to do, is use something sticky.
I used this Korean goo thing and left it for like a day
and pulled it out and there it was!

get something sticky... maybe even the white glue you use in school
and leave it on for like a day for it to STICK
and then pull it out carefully...
if it doesn't work, try again.. you gonna have to get that out anyways...

and after that, out off the rubber thing off the coil and then stick it back all the way in untill it locks. (make sure you clear the glue off...)
and you are ready to go!

Re: Re: Re: Spark Plug Problem....HELP

go to your local nissan dealer and get a price, then compare it with:

http://www.nissanparts.cc/

factor in the shipping and see which is cheaper. according to the parts guy at nissan, they are the same. you can take a chance and use the existing coil, i wouldn't recommend you glue it back and put it back in, only because of the amount heat. i would buy another and keep the ripped one as a back up.

How do you prevent this from happening? I'm going to change my spark plugs of my 97 with 56K miles on it. I'm still on the stock plugs and don't want anything to go wrong. thanks

um... i was saying...
at the end of the coil, that's where the rubber should be...
put something sticky on it... *white glue* and stick it in...
push it down and down untill you can't go down anymore.
and that's when the rubber should be touching tip of the coil and let it set and stick to the coil...
leave it for like a day man... you don't want to mess it up...
and then when you feel lucky, pull it out
and THERE IS YOUR RUBBER!!!

you just have to pull them out carefully...
don't yank it out... and when you get to the last piece, unscrew the things you need to unscrew...
like the things next to the spark plugs that makes it hard to reach...
in the maximadriver.com instructions...
good luck!

the rubber surrounding the igniton coil and the plug provides insulation between the two. depending upon how much of the rubber got ripped off, you can still use the coil. so sexima is right you can still use the coil if not too ripped. for myself, i would replace because if anything got damaged that deep, would be $$$ to repair. For the coil costing $70, i'd replace and call it a hard lesson learned. next time twist lightly first and pull out firmly without force.
