need to clean a stain off leather
need to clean a stain off leather
ok, i did a little searching, but i couldn't come up with too much...i have a 97 GLE with the tan leather interior, and on my driver seat back, i have a small area where a pen has hit or something, but there is pen ink on the seat back...i want to get this stain out because it looks ugly, blue ink...can anyone help?...thanks in advance
I got a '97 GLE also... but i have black leather... I use Lexol..cleaners and conditioners.. Eagel-1 conditioners isn't bad either.. but it leaves more of an oily residue... For a pen mark all i can think of is saddle soap.. i've never used it.. but i hear it does a good job.. i wanted to try it but i don't know where to get it from.. i hear it can also soft harden leather...

I'm going to throw this up here.
I have a brochure I got from a local Luggage and Leather Shop that has been in business since 1924!
These guys know leather.
For smooth leather which is what I would classify the leather in seats (as opposed to suede or other types of leathers) it recommends the following:
Smooth leather may be cleaned at home with pH balanced Lexol Leather Cleaner or with a damp cloth and the lather from a mild pure soap like Ivory or Castile. Do not use detergent or deodorant soap! Use more lather than water. Apply the lather to the surface to be cleaned and then wipe off with a clean damp (undyed)cloth. (Rubbing extremely hard can take off the dye from the leather). Be careful.
Do not use saddle soap on fine smooth leathers as it can have a drying effect which hardens the leather over a period of time. Be sure heavily soiled smooth leather is professionally cleaned.
Keep smooth leathers soft and supple by conditioning them at the beginning and end of each season with Lexol Leather Conditioner. Lexol Leather Conditioner restores the oils to the fibers of the leather and helps greatly to prolong the life of the leather.
Rubber cement is a good oil remover. Put the rubber cement over the spot, let it dry, rub it off. Voila, The spot is gone (This treatment is not for suede).
art gum erasers can remove many spots and marks. Be Careful and don't rub too hard on your fine leather!
Nothing specifically about ink, but some good information I hope.

ink remover pen
When we received the leather treatment kit with our leather furniture, it came with an "ink stick" that removed marker, ballpoint, etc. Never had the opportunity to use it, but I guess the point is that there are products out there that are made specifically for removing ink from leather.
My suggestions?
1) I'm sure Lexol has a product to do this. You might just call a good auto or upholstery shop. They'll probably tell you what they use.
2) Check with a local detailer. They do this all the time.
3) Check with the local dealer. They also do this all the time when they're prepping used cars
4) Check at Pep Boys, NAPA, Kragen, whatever. They probably have something over-the-counter in their car care section.
Let us know how it turns out.

Well, thanks guys for the help, I went to AutoZone today and the guy there said he doesn't have anything that he knows of that will get the stain out. I was looking at the Maguires and stuff, but he said he thinks it will just get the surface dirt off, and not the ink stain. But I might look into that ink removing pen, see if I can find it somewhere. Thanks again guys, and if I ever do get it out, I'll tell ya guys how.
I have the same problem 97BlackMax, and here is what I did, first forget about all the leather cleaners, because all they do is re-condition the leather and clean the surface, and plz do not use a ink remover it will remove some of the color from your leather seats.
All you have to do is get a re-coloring leather kit, its so simple to use a dummy can't fail!!!!!! Try this web site:
