buying a maxima

ok im in the market to buy a maxima, and this pass weekend i went to a local deal to check out the lot. And i found a 98 SE 5 speed, with sunroof with 39k miles, silver on black. They where asking $15995, but i was able to talk them down to $14000. First off is that a good deal or can i go lower maybe like $12-13k? I want to call them up with a offer, what sould it be?

Second when my father and i went the next day to look at it, the whole engine bay had rust on it, things like the brakets for the radiator, the nuts for the suspention had oxodized, some of the metal pipes had rust, and other various thing. Now why would this happen, the car has only 39K miles.

PS the interior was mint, some wear onthe paint, but nothign major, the engine started and ran fine.

Wow bad news. Where are you located? You will likely end up with a rust bucket if you are not careful. Run a carfax and it will tell you where and when the car was registered. I personally think that sounds like a coastal flood car, salt water flood and that = REALLY BAD NEWS!

Take fst96Se's advice, you dont want rust. Any way do you mean Sterling Mist because the 98 Max didnt come in silver?
