someone tried to take my max!

When I went down to my garage yesterday to go to work, I saw that my car was all torn up! The mf's ripped my door around the handle. I mean ripped! They tore my ignition apart. And they punched holes in my grill, to get to the hood, so they could disconnect my horn. Looks like repairs will cost about 1500-2000, of which I might have to pay because of drama with my insurance carrier. They said that I was late on my insurance payment. But, they sent the bill late! They sent the bill and the late notice on the same day!
I couldnt even tow my car because my shifter was locked (i think because of the anti-theft system). We had to jack the car up with a rolling jack, and push it.
I took it to a pretty cool body shop though. They said that they would get me a whole new door and bumper and grill. They said that it was better than trying to repair it. I think so too.
Hopefully, all the repairs will be done without any further drama (especially from my ins carrier). But, I wont know until Monday. Since they dont open on the #@%*ing weekend! What kind of "24/7" claims dept doesnt open on the weekend!?
The reason I am writing this is:
1. Just to vent my frustrations
& 2. To ask if anyone might have any helpful advice about anything, or if you've just shared a similar experience.
Thanks.

That sucks, man....

Still have the enveloipes the bill and the "late notice" came in?

Check out the postmarks, take them to the closest office of your insurance carrier and prove to them that you got your bill and late notice on the same day.

Although you should have anticipated that it was time to pay your insurance in the first place.

I pay mine before the bill ever shows up. I just call them, ask what my bill is that month, and then send them a check via wellsfargo.com....no need to wait for a bill.

that seriously sucks ...sorry to hear about it...take a shotgun and find those suckers...

but seriously, did your insurance cancel your policy due to late payment?...because i am under the impression that you are still covered until they cancel your policy...but as iansw, try to prove that you received both the bill and late notice on the same day...the mail goes real slow nowadays, with increased security and all...but i am pretty sure that you should still be covered even with a late payment, you jsut have to pay the extra late fee...not absolutely positive though...good luck

Pretty much in his situation, if the insurance company wants to screw him, they will. But most insurance companies aren't that bad about reasoning with ya, as long as you're civil.

I'm glad I got my insurance...someone hit me a couple of weeks ago, I called the insurance co., and they said to go get an estimate anywhere I wanted. I did that, then faxed them the estimate, they sent a check. They didn't want to see the car, or even pictures of it. They just said "we'll take your word for it."

Man they rock.

What carrier do you have? My family has State Farm, and let's just say we've had quite a few rear end collisions...especially our 96 I30..something attracts people to rear ending us in that ...but each time, the insurance company just let us take it to our friend-owned body shop, they write up the estimate, and we get a check from State Farm in that amount, and they let us do whatever with it

USAA. It's their policy not to ask any questions.
