This would probably be torque steer, its when one wheel spins and causes a pull to that side, if you have an auto it is exaggerated even worse on a max, tires are always a factor(air pressure, type, wear)

It's your tires not gripping the road. Even with super sticky performance tires, my Maxima spins the wheels when it is wet outside. It's exactly what you describe...you step on the gas, and then the steering gets all loose and vibraing.

Just don't step on the gas so hard and the tires will grip up.

same here

with the steering pull and tire hop when I merge into the highway very quickly. It has to do with the grip of the tires, but it also has to do with the type of road surfaces you are travelling on. I notice that I don't get that when I floor it on the white cement type roads--which are louder but I think it is better with road grip. With the black asphalt--whoaaa...better watch that when the road is wet or when there is ice--that type of surface is very quiet to travel on and will minimize road noise--but it is slippery.

If it's wheel hop, I read that that can be caused not only by what the above (and I am sure better qualified individuals thatn myself-for real) say but also suspension. On front wheel drive cars especially. The torque makes the weight shift to the rear of the car taking the weight off the driving wheel(s) and the car's tires can't grip so the torque applied to moving the car just spins the tire causing the weight to quickly transfer back to the fornt wheels and violah, tire hop, I think.

I would say normal. Happens to me sometimes, but usually when it is wet out, just start out a little slower when turning. Then again, I also have these crappy tires that have got to go...

It seems we agree that tire hop/axle tramp is what ails you. Although it is a natural result of over application of the accelerator pedal, it should be avoided always. Tire hop causes a lot of stress on your drive-train, which may lead to costly damage. How can you avoid tire hop?

- Slow your starts, accelerate more slowly
- Install grippier tires (bigger, wider, stickier)
- Firm up your suspension (springs, struts, FSTB)
- Replace the OEM rubber engine mounts with stiffer mounts

The first suggestion doesn't cost anything, it doesn't lead to a harsh, bumpy ride, nor does it induce more noise and vibration in the cabin. It *will* prolong the life of your drive-train.

Happens to me lots too. Just hard to accelerate slow in a Max I guess!
