HI, LATELY I HAVE SEEN THE POPLULARITY OF THE BMW 3 SERIES ( THE LAST BODY STYLE THAT COMES IN A M3). OK. WELL ON T.V. I HAVE WATCHED TOURING CAR RACING, AND I HAVE NOTICED HOW THE BACK OF THE CAR, THE TIRED SIT INSIDE THE WHEEL WELL BUT DONT RUB, WELL I SAW THIS WHITE BMW AND THE WHEELS IN THE BACK WERE SITTIN UP THERE - JUST A LITTLE. IZ THAT POSSIBLE FOR A MAXIMA TO BE ABLE TO SIT LIKE THA BECAUSE IT LOOKS GOOD, BUT I ALSO WANNA KNOW IZ HOW THA CAR IZ STILL SITTING FLAT AND NOT SLOPING DOWN IN THE BACK. IF SOMEONE COULD HELP ME OUT, THAT WOULD BE GREAT.
THANX

word of advise, stop using all caps. BTW if all you want is looks, get some Intrax springs.

You can get a MacPhearson Air bag suspention, you can lower your car 4", but it costs $1800, and wont give you any handling improvements.

First, please stop typing in all caps. It's hard to read compared to every other message written in upper and lower case.

Touring Cars run custom suspensions which allow such a tremendous amount of lowering. You're not going to be able to lower a Maxima that much and still be able to maintain any remotely good handling or comfort. However if you just want looks.... go buy some Sprint springs or a set of coilovers.

do you realize that those touring cars have no suspension worth talking about. They can sit like that because they are only raced on smooth tracks and driven as race cars. I would guess that one of those cars driven daily (without being rebuilt before every race) would fall apart pretty fast.

What do you mean they have no suspension to talk about? Those tracks are far from being smooth for one thing. Second, their coil over setup are probably worht many thousands of dollars.

I don't mean they have bad suspensions: they are excelent for what they do. They don't lean and they are so still that driver feels every little bump in the road. And those tracks are nothing like driving on the street (i.e. no potholes) so you can afford to have no ground clearance.

Maximas just can't tuck without ruining your suspension. Hondas and BMW's can tuck all day long with a 1.5" drop, but we need like a 3+" drop.

Touring Cars

We were in Indianapolis a few years ago for the '500 and went down to the the Chrysler shops where they had their factory Super Touring Car effort. This was the now defunct series that ran as a support race for CART on their road course weekends. From what we could see (before they slammed the garage doors on us and told us to get out) they aren't even remotely like a sedan underneath that sheetmetal. Just like a Winston Cup car, they have a full tube chassis. They say that the suspension is about as stiff as a CART IndyCar and in fact they use CART brakes up front, part for part!
