Automatic in a 99 SE
Automatic in a 99 SE
Does anybody have a problem with their automatic tranny not shifting into first gear until you hit the gas when the car is cold? It also happens when the car is up to operating temp. but not as bad. If I come to a stop sign and don't come to a full stop I have to really step on the gas pedal to get the tranny to downshift into first gear. Anybody had any experience with this?
I took it to the dealer and they told me in was "within spec". The car still has warranty left on it so any problems should be covered.
any help is appreciated!

its not a problem, my 96 does the samething, u really notice it if u get an intake b/c u kinda lose the low end power, but the noise and the increase in the power band is worth it
It's the idiotic shift "logic" designed into the transmission computer. Happens with all automatic Maximas, and with a lot of other cars as well. The difference is that with other cars, you can step on the gas harder and it will shift to first (smoothly). With the Maxima, if you do a rolling stop and you want first gear, you need to really goose the gas and brace yourself for the harsh shift which feels like it will destroy the transmission.
The solution? Stop completely when you come to that stop sign. It's the law, anyways.
