struts

I'm pretty sure I need new rear struts. The dealership wants $750 for this work on my 95 SE.

Is there a way to get this done more cheaply and still get a good job done?

Wooaaa! Honestly your best bet would be buy a set of KYB AGXs for about $360 or even cheaper are the KYB GR2s and either install them yourself or pay a mechanic about $150 to install them. $750 is rediculous. This is not work that needs to be done by a dealership.

My suggestion is to get the kyb agx's and you can get them installed for $150-$200

But if you have access to a good jack and jack stands, with a good manual you can do it yourself

you dont need no stinkin manual..

if you wanna just replace the back ones, get some kyb gr2's, take your back wheels off, and all u need to do is remove one bolt at the bottom of each strut, and two at the top.

then, once you get the strut/spring assembly out, just unscrew the top bolt that holds the spring on.. the spring will uncompress, do it carefully, but it doesnt have enough force to uncompress violently, so dont worry.. (this is NOT the case for the front springs though, you do need a compressor)

You dont even need a spring compressor to do the back ones, this job should take you an hour or two max. good luck

A manual is advisable mostly for the torque values on this job & if you plan on doing even 1 job on your car, it's worth the purchase. If you don't get the torque #'s there, at least get them from the site, here.

Don't forget that he needs a new alignment afterwards. Is the dealer including this in their price? That would be a bit more reasonable. But anyhow, you don't need KYB shocks unless you want to lower your car anyways.

Just some info, but many members are ridding on stock shocks with AGX's and love the ride.

I am lowered.. and love them

yes.. i'm sure he'll love the ride and the adjustability, but its not necessary for his vehicle.

where are you located

I'm sure there are some guys that will help you install them. It'll save you a $400 or so. I'll be selling my Tokico High Performance shocks and struts in about two weeks. They've been on my car for less than a year and are in excellent condition. They carry a lifetime warranty with the boxes and invoice slip. I'm looking to get $200. These would be perfect for your car. These struts are recommended for stock springs and H&R's. Anything else, might not be the best idea.

if he only does the rear struts, no alignment is needed, because the maxima has a solid rear axle
