What is a good 5point harness?
What is a good 5point harness?
I was looking for a decent 5 point harness for autox'ing this year. Is there any particular that most people prefer using here? I was looking at the Y type harness but I dont have a rollbar. And the floor mounted ones are quite pricey... at least for now. I'd appreciate any input. Thanks.

hehe at least your tried first. Another thing might be searching for Autocrossing or Auto X type stuff and see if anyone mentions one. That way even if it doesnt tell you in there you might be able to talk to the opthers that auto X and maybe they have info they just have not posted yet. You might be the first I have seen ask.

Sure if they don't go fast enough to roll over, but people do roll over in AutoX. Do you know what happens when you have a 5 point harness on and the car rolls over VS just with regular seat belt?

I use a Schroth Ralley 3 harness for autocross and track sessions. It's not 5 point but it has the two shoulder straps which hold me to the seat, which is what I wanted. It's DOT legal so I can use it on the street and I didn't have to drill any holes into the car to install it. You can find Schroth stuff at:

These guys mostly deal with BMW's but are really cool to deal with and they know their ****.

But no I dont have a cage right now, and I dont think I'd be getting one unless I really need to. I know its bordering dangerous, driving without a cage, but I want to start out small. How about the bar? Does it have to be custom made or are there places that sell them for the maxima?
Also, I see that the harness clips on to the existing seat belt clamp on the side, but what about the rear? Where does that part get connected to? And its a good thing that I wouldnt have to drill holes to make it fit!

On my Miata I use a Simpson 5pt harness with the camlock system since it's quicker to latch/unlatch. You'll spend about $160-180 on this one.

Yep..bad things will happen. OEM seat belt lets you slid down toward the floor during a roll over. Racing harness will strap you to the seat which is being crushed by the roof of the car. That's why it'd dangrous. A simple 4 point roll bar can be welded into a maxima for about $600-$700. A real cage you are looking at $2K+ because they have to gut the whole interior including the dash.

I ordered a Schroth Rallye3 yesterday. Barry Chafin suggested it to me. Simple to use, and most Schroths unclip in the rear easily to gain access to the rear seats. They also make tension adjustable ones for everyday street driving (otherwise you can't even reach the glovebox)
HMS, SubeSports, Soloracer all carry em. Best deal I found was modernperformance.com. Cory quoted me $119 yesterday. They have the red and blue in stock. Black is on b/o.
P.S. I can't even lift an inside rear so I doubt I'm ever gonna roll.
