1998 GXE Sound System Help

Hello, I've been reading several posts on this website & they are very informative, so, I thought I'd give it a try.

I purchased a 1998 GXE a couple months ago. I nothing about sound systems, speakers, etc. All I know is that I don't like the sound I have now. I just have the basic AM/FM cassette (no CD) I do have a 12 disc changer that I took out of my Intrepid that I am planning on having my son install for me. I am getting different advise on how I can improve on my sound. I was hoping to just change out the speakers for better ones. But some people say change the whole head unit also. I am really not that picky as to the sound, do not crank it or anything, & do not want to spend hundreds of dollars, just want improvement. Any suggestions? Should I do both front & back? or just start with the front? What brands? Any advise would be greatly appreciated.

If you have the single DIN AM/FM cassette radio with the storage pocket directly beneath it you can pick up the Nissan OEM 6-disc in-dash CD changer for about $200 to go in the pocket and it is a direct plug-in (no wiring required). I also replaced my speakers with Boston Acoustic separates in the front and Boston Acoustics in the rear. Dramatic improvement in stock sound while still keeping the stock head unit. The stock speakers are paper cones with "whizzers" instead of real tweeters. If nothing else, just replacing all four speakers will give you better sound.
