S/C Max is pinging?
OK do any of the supercharged fellows out there have a problem with there car PINGING. My car is detonating at about 5000 RPM. Anyone have any ideas on what it could be or if u have had this problem in your car?
Pinging is bad!!!!
Try going with a colder NGK copper plug. If that doesn't work don't boost the engine! Otherwise you will lose compression requiring an engine rebuild. Maybe its a bad tank of gas? I'm sure your running at least 92+ octane correct? For now see if octane booster helps.
is that between shift or during a accel? try running a tank of octane booster for now and don't gun the engine. check fuel delivery and like what nismo said..the plugs.

It's under acceleration. I have tried different types of fuel and they have the same result. I have no idea what type of plugs are in this car. Do you know where I can get the NGK plugs that u r talking about. I will try to get an octane booster and see if that works.

The supercharger kit did bring another pump that runs in line with the system to step up the fuel. The funny thing is that when I first got the kit it wasn't pinging. I will check out that pump and see if the may be the problem. I still haven't had anyone tell me how to check the timing on this car. Does anyone out there know how to do this.

Describe your problem in more detail
Is it only at 5000+ rpms? Does it happen all the time?
Are you sure it is a "ping" or is it some type of hesitation? When is the last time you replaced your fuel filter? For a slight extra insurance, you could go with a slightly larger 300zx filter(lines fit exactly)...nice to have any extra bit of fuel sitting in the filter.
Did you do the mod to leave the aux fuel pump on full time?
Octane you are running?
-possibly 1 stage colder plugs
-Check vacuum lines!!! - make sure that one of the tubes did not pop out of your fuel pressure regulator(or tubes don't leak).
-Check make sure the aux fuel pump is working. or electric wire did not fall out of the Hobbs switch
-Check fuel pressure make sure you are making enough.
Matt
btw: I just fixed a similiar type of problem. It was my ignition coil in cylinder #1. I had a hesitation @3600 rpms and another at 4300 rpms(not actually fuel related).

DETAILS!!!!!
Well let's see how many answers I can give u to those questions. First of all I use 93 octane fuel. Unless I have gotten like 2 or 3 tanks of ****ty fuel I don't think that it would be the problem. It does happen all the time when u have the pedal to the metal. It only happens when the car reaches high RPM's over 5000. I just put a new fuel filter in the car last weekend cause I thought that could be part of the problem. No I have not done the mod of leaving the fuel pump on all the time and im not sure how much that will help. The car is not hesitating as a matter of fact it is very powerfull. But the noise I keep hearing is like a really low arking sound. I have had a couple of people look at it and they all say it's detonation. I have not bought cooler plugs for it for I don't know where to get them or what part # or who even makes them. About the vacuum lines they all seem to be connected and tightly in their place. I have not checked fuel pressure or to even see if the pump is working cause im not sure exactly how other than hard wiring the pump. The only thing is that if I do that it only tells me one thing. I will tell me if the pump works it won't tell me if the pump is supplying enough fuel or the right amount of fuel. Today im taking the car back to the shop who installed the kit and im going to have them look at it. I will let him know of all the things you guys have mentioned and see if he can figure out what the problem is. Thanks for the help.

Plugs...
NGK PFR6B-11 these are one step colder than the factory plugs on the Maxima, they are the stock plugs for the N/A 300ZX
Gey them at NAPA, get that PN dont let NAPA substitute.
Good luck!

I think there is a miss understanding in the way that I typed my quote earlier. I meant to say that if I hard wired the pump it will only tell me if the pump is coming on at all. I know that a fuel pressure test will probably tell me how much fuel pressure I have but how will I know how much pressure im supposed to have under boost. Does that make sense or am I confusing people. Maybe im just going crazy cause I want my car to run right and it's stressing me out.....lol. I really appreciate everyone's help in this. Thank you.
Call Stillen and ask them about the pressure, mabye some of the SC guys around here know? I would think you should hook up a fuel pressure gauge. The in cockpit kind run ~$100, the under the hood kind run ~$20. You can cheat with the under the hood type by running some extra fuel line so you can put the gauge up by the wind shield, but remove it from their after you get it right.

Colder plugs
There are a ton of places you can get the plugs --->
You can request the plugs by brand and model number.
I know Courtesy Nissan http://www.courtesy-nissan.com/ sells NGK platinum spark plugs 1 range colder == or PFR6G-11
Stock is PFR5G-11.
I am currently running 2 heat ranges cooler(copper plugs). I would not suggest you go any cooler than that.
BKR6E-11 are the copper 1 range cooler (BKR7E-11 2 ranges cooler)
-----------------------------
I would really get a check on how much fuel pressure you are making when the boost goes up. This will be benificial in diagnosing the problem. Also, check the color of the spark plugs. WHITE = real bad. TAN = GOOD
Black = could be rich. You may even find that the back 3 are whiter than the front 3(friggen 4 gen fuel rail design--front 3 get their fuel first).
Let me know how it goes.

Ok the car is in the shop right now and they are going to look at it. Im still going to replace the plugs with the ones that u guys are recomending. So I will let u know how they look when I pull them out of the cylinder. I can't say this enough but thanks for all the support and help. It's good to know that there are other people out there that know about this car and can answer questions when someone is not sure. Peace out.
